About to run in my first race!
I'm a 27 year old elementary special education teacher- mentioning this only so you'll get a general feel for my lifestyle! I am by no means any fitness champ....I basically only work out to maintain what I've got. I generally wake up at about 4:30 and, depending on the day as I try to switch it up, do 15 min of speed walking (I have a treadmill) using 2lb weights simultaneously, or 20 minutes of light jogging. I also do....get ready for it....the shake-weight and the ab-roller (I know, I'm a sucker, but they work for me!) I do this at least 4 days a week, sometimes 5 if I'm not too worn out by Friday.
After running, I'll do some cereal... Cheerios or raisin bran or similar.... and lunch at school is generally yogurt, fruit, and a granola bar on the go. Dinner is carb time... paninis or pasta or something like that. So, you know, I'm not the world's healthiest person but I'm not spiraling downwards or anything!
A group of teachers and I recently signed up for a 5k just for fun. I want to know if anyone has any advice for me, as I've never done a race before. What should I eat the night before? What about the morning of, considering I usually eat after I run in the morning? I'm usually running way before I've had time to get hungry but this race will be much later in the morning so it will be a different story. I also tend to cramp up if I eat before running. The race is in a month so I'm trying to up my endurance on the treadmill every day. I should also add that I'm only running this race for fun, not to win.
Sorry for such a long post but I would love any tips or advice, and I wanted you to have as clear a picture of me as possible!! Thanks!
