Internal vs external rotator cuff injury

I have The 7 Minute Rotator Cuff Solution book. I am about to start a rehab program for a left shoulder injury from golf. At the start of Chapter 5, The Routines, it says to make sure that I choose the appropriate rehab routine. There is one routine for external rotator cuff injuries and one for internal rotator cuff injuries.

For the life of me, I cannot find in the book where it says how to tell which is which.

Can anyone help me figure out which injury I have so I can choose the right rehab routine?

If it helps, the injury occurred when I overdid it on the driving range. I feel some pain when I try to lift me left arm to the side.

Why not go to an orthopedist and have them look you over? That way you will not make it worse by guessing.

Re: Internal vs external rotator cuff injury

I went to my primary care physician when it first happened, about 6-7 years ago. He said it was probably a minor strain and to rest it. It got about 50% better, but hasn't improved much the past few years. I'm now starting an overall fitness program and I wanted to include this.

After reading the book in more detail, I'm pretty sure it's the external rotator cuff that needs work. I'll try that program. If it gets worse, I'll go back to the doctor.

Re: Internal vs external rotator cuff injury

Do not go to your GP. Go to an orthopedist who specializes in this type of thing. Also if you have insurance the ortho can then recommend a PT and it will be covered by your insurance. I would not go on hunches or a book. This is an area you do not want to mess up.
