Strange visual symptoms -spots both eyes

Hi everyone,

I have this strange thing with my vision. If I look to the far right or left I see a spot... it's gray and somewhat translucent. This also happens when I look upwards. If I shake my head I can see the spots flickering.

This started when I was 25 and I'm now 34. I managed to live with it but now it's started to scare me as I think it may be getting slightly worse.

I went to an ophthalmologist and he ran every test imaginable and found nothing. He then sent me for an MRI of my brain and orbits, with and without contrast, and again everything showed up fine. Lastly I went to a neuro-ophthalmologist and she too saw nothing.

It appears equally in both eyes. Other than this my vision is fine (I wear contacts). I do have some VS but it's manageable, and I have floaters and ocular migraines.

As far as all test can tell, my eyes appear healthy but there is clearly something going on. It almost feels or looks like there's a muscle being pulled or perhaps circulartory problems? Sometimes I will see my pulse in my eyes and the veins, if that makes any sense.

I just had a physical and I'm healthy. I'm not overweight and exercise regularly. There was a thread that is now closed but it is exactly what I am experiencing, so I at least know I'm not the only one..

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you

One possibility, you might want to research, is Migraine Aura, with or without a headache.

Thanks for the reply! It's def not a migraine, although I do suffer from them.

Are you sure it's not ocular migraines? I suffer from those as well on a daily basis. Pretty much all day everyday I get these black or grey Vision spots in either just my right eye or sometimes both eyes. Sometimes it's coupled with pain sometimes it's not. I can go weeks without having any pain but I always have the vision problems and all of the doctors have said that is ocular migraines. Also a lot of times I get super sleepy like I can't function properly because I get so exhausted. I went to an opthamologist he says my eyes are perfect, "if all my patients had eyes like yours I go out of business". I went to my physician several times even switched positions to get a second opinion then I was sent to a neurologist where he did some test so I had MRI done with and without contrast everything was fine except for small little angioma on the side of my brain but they said that that can't cause it and that it's benign nothing's wrong. They currently have me on anti-seizure medication 3 times a day to see if that'll help or stop it. So far it's not working wondering if anybody else has had experience with this and if they got it to stop and if so how.

Hi,

I'm positive they are not migraines. I get migraines with aura, about every couple of months or so, for the past 10 years.

These spots are permanent, equal in size and on both sides of my vision.

It sounds like you need an eye exame. But you said you had one and its normal , so not sure. Maybe get another one? Or another eye doctor.
