Cataracts surgery : Should my mother get multifocal IOLs?

Cost really is not an issue.

She is only concerned with any possible side effects. She is 86 years old and doesn't really drive at night so any night vision problems are not an issue.

What is the average cost to have these? Her ophthalmologist wants to charge $4,000 which seems a little high.

That is approx what people I know here have paid for them. I doubt it's worth it for her.

I respectfully disagree.... your mom can have many good years ahead of her. If you can afford it, why not give her the best vision you possibly can?
I am much younger but when I had my cataracts done that is approximately what I paid many years ago.

I got the multifocal 3 wks ago in 1 eye, 2 wks in the other. My vision is worse than it was the first couple days. I do notice it's much clearer when I am outside in natural light, but in the office, I can't hardly see my computer clearly. It does still flucuate some. Is this normal? Will it clear up?
