Zioptan 0.0015% for Glaucoma treatment

I've been prescribed one drop on an eye a day. They sell Zioptan in what they call as one time use vials. They put more than one drop in the vial so there always are remaining Zioptan in the vial. Would it be safe to put the cap back on the vial, put it back in the refrigerator, and use the remaining Zioptan following days?

My suspicion pharmaceutical companies want you to throw away the vial each day so you have to buy it every 30 days instead of going longer.

It is not safe to reuse a single use vial. You need to discard it.Do not fool around with safety issues.

I totally agree with you that this is a tactic of the pharmaceutical companies to rack in more money. Disgusting!!

I need to take natural tears for dry eye. The preservative free kind (individual vials) used to have a reclosable cap but all brands changed that so it is not reclosable. I always kept it in the refrigerator until I used up the vial - 4 - 5 days, possible more (I don't use it too often). Never had a problem. After the cap couldn't reclose I asked my Glaucoma Specialist about using it more than once and he told me to just keep it in the refrigerator, so I still do that. However, I'm more careful of how I store it so that the uncovered tip doesn't touch anything as I don't want it contaminated. Also, I take it out when ready to use and immediately put it back after inserting in my eye.

I recommend you ask your ophthalmologist what he recommends.
