I have a question: After seven months or so of burning and irritation in one eye (most likely caused by blepharitis) and if there has been gradual improvement in the eye, is it likely that my eye will eventually be back to "normal"?
I intend to continue warm compresses and eyelid cleanings.

If you can see some improvement, then yes it may eventually get back to normal. My friend had blepharitis and just got off a 6 month course of doxycycline and hot compresses/eyelid scrubs. He is still doing the compresses and scrubs. His eyes seem to be back to normal. But everybody is different. Afyer 2 1/2 years of having dry eyes, I don't even remember what it felt like to have "normal" eyes. Sometimes we just need to hope for our eyes being as good as they can get, however good that is. They may return to normal one day, or they may only get 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90% better.

I guess I should feel lucky that the irritation isn't worse than it is and that there has been improvement. I saw the doctor yesterday for a follow-up visit, and he said that there is not much more that he can do, and that I just have to continue doing what I have been doing.
Perhaps I will plateau at 70% improvement or so, and I'll have to accept that. The one thing that I haven't tried yet is the doxycycline. (I think I've tried everything else.) I wish I had asked the doctor about it yesterday.
By the way, my next question has probably been answered many times on the board already and it's probably a silly question, but I'm wondering the following: Is it better to apply the hot compresses before cleaning the lids with baby shampoo, or is it better to apply the compresses after?

Hmmmm..... that is a good question. I don't know. On one hand if you apply the hot compress first then you might loosen up some **** to be cleaned away by the lid scrubs. On the other hand, if you do the lid scrub first the hot compress will get rid of any crap that is leftover. In my opinion it might be best to do the hot compress first, but I don't know because I'm not allowed to do lid scrubs.

First do the warm compress. Then lid massages (if you are or should be doing them), and then do the lid scrubs.
How many times every day are you doing the warm compresses? And yes, ask about doxy.

I do the compresses and scrubs in the morning when I rise and at night before I go to bed--twice a day. The doctor has never suggested lid massages. I've tried (based on what I've read), but I don't think I'm doing it right.
