monthly/continuous wear contacts!

hi, I've been wearing monthly contacts for over a year now, and I just hate wearing them now, because I can't wear them for more than 8 hours(because it hurts too much-literally hurts...and my vision becomes a bit blurry), and I start to feel discomfort after only 3/4 hours!!! Is this normal? Could I suddenly have dry eyes or something??? I'm scared of telling my opticians, in case they tell me that im not allowed to wear contacts anymore(is this possible?!)! What should I do? In the meantime, I've bought some eyedrops, and they help a bit....but then my eyes start to hurt again! I don't know what's wrong!!! How do some people wear contacts for 12/14 hours?!?!?!
Also, has anyone had experience with continuous wear contacts, which you wear continuously for 30 days, without taking them out??? I don't understand how it's possible not to take them out at all...surely that can't be good for your eyes?! Do you have to be an experienced contacts wearer to be able to wear them???
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Re: monthly/continuous wear contacts!

oh and, do you think gas permeables are a good option??? My vision is not that bad, it's +2.5 , my optician thinks I should stick with soft contacts, but do you think i should see an ophthalmologist and ask???
Aren't gas permeables more comfortable once you get used to them? So you can wear them for longer, right???

Re: monthly/continuous wear contacts!

OK, brace yourself, because I have to yell at you Let me see if I can find some wagging fingers There! STOP WEARING THOSE LENSES and go back to your eye doctor's. You can't be sticking lenses in your eyes that hurt. Pain = bad. You already know this, so don't ask if it's "normal" You'd rather wear contacts that are hurting your eyes rather than be told you can't wear any at all? This doesn't make sense. You are risking permanent eye damage. Want to live the rest of your life in pain or with diminished vision because you're being silly? Go to the doctor, find out why these contacts are bothering you, and work together to find a solution. It may be as simple as trying a different lens material.

As for contacts that you wear continuously--don't even think about it! The risk of eye infection/problems is much higher than with conventional contacts. I don't know why anyone would risk it. Lens care takes SECONDS nowadays. You can even get daily disposables that you throw out at the end of each day.

Good luck and let us know what the doctor says. You're going, right? Right?

Re: monthly/continuous wear contacts!

Well from another perspective: I am 26 and have been wearing contacts since I was around 14. I have dry eyes, and switched to the Focus Night and Day contacts about a year ago. They are continuous - up to 30 days wear, and are a new technology that lets 6 times more oxygen into your eye, and have a special coating that repels dirt and residue much more than any other type of lens. I was originally concerned because I figured the same thing - that any lens you wear constantly would build up and get 'dirty' but that's the opposite with these lenses. Take a look at their site: google "focus night and day contacts" and you will see cibas site for them

I LOVE THESE LENSES. They are 95 percent better than the others - and Ive tried them all. Dailys are too flimsy. I wore them for 30 days for the first 6 months, then I shaved off a few days - now about 28 days at a time. They say some people need to change them every 3 weeks, but they are safe up to 30 days. You just adjust them to how you feel in them. Im sure they arent for everyone, but I would go ask your DR about them - they have gone through extensive testing and are a HELL of a lot more safe than lasik!

I RARELY feel dry, RARELY put lenses in - they are truly amazing and have made a huge difference for me . I woudl highly recommend them - and they are by CIBA, so its not like some shady company.

Anyway I found a site with a box (3 pairs, around 3 months ) for 42.00 which is very cheap - they are normally around 60 a box. Im not sure if I can post it here though?

Re: monthly/continuous wear contacts!

Day and night contacts are totally safe and the chances of getting infected is lower than with other contacts. If anyone says anything diffrent has not read up on them or checked up on them. I have been wearing them for 30 days straight no problem. So dont trust anyones opinion 100% go check them out on the website they are toatally safe belive me. Do your research on them thoroughly and decide then but dont make a quick decison for or against them by other peoples word even mine. I urge you to go on a search engine and type in night and day contacts. Happy reasearch.
