Scared: Shimmering vision

Hi,

Im hoping somone can help me, for the past year i have had shimmering in my vision, meaning when i look at stuff it appears to have lots of tiny tiny lights moving around over it, its really hard to explain, its like a bad signal on a tv. I can get through my day fine with it, it doesnt cause reading problems, i can read fine. Ive been to the doctors with it who referred me to the opticians who said my eyes were fine, slightly strained but fine.

So a year later, today I dont know if it was anything but i was reading and all of a sudden my vision seemed hazy for a second, i looked around almost had a panic attack then it was fine. I do get anxiety now and again, im not great with my nerves. I have had this a few times, mostly ignore it because it doesnt stay, and usually when i look around i dont notice it, its just for some reason i feel like my vision goes slightly hazy.

Another symptom is zooming vision, i get this when ive been out walking or driving, ill look at the floor or a wall and it will appear to zoom and twirl away from me very slowly, this differes some days, somtimes i might have it sometimes i dont.

And recently I have noticed 1 or 2 (what i think are) floaters, which appear in my vision now and again. Im only 18, is this somthing to worry about?

At first i thought this might have been the anxiety but now i dont have as much anxiety as i used to, so i duno, does anyone have advice, please dont tell me to go see a doctor or an optician, ive been there.. done that

Thanks.

Don't know for sure, do you ever get headaches after the eye problems? Go read the message on "Optic Migraines".

You sometimes have to go to several doctors before you get an answer. I know that does not sound like a good thing, but it is a real thing.

Best wishes.

Re: Scared: Shimmering vision

Asheh,

Go to google and search for 'visual snow'. There is a message board dedicated to this problem. These folks see this snow among some other weird visual phenomena, but 'rest assured' nothing can be found wrong with their eyes. Some have a lot of anxiety dealing with this, but you will find many others who are dealing with it well and have for years. I don't know how comforting it is to you, but at least they can't find any real phsyiological reason why this is happening. Not a lot of doctors even believe some of them, but it hasn't made anyone go blind and some have had this for years. Take some comfort in that and check it out. There are worse conditions out there!

Good luck!

Re: Scared: Shimmering vision

Oh, and another thing. I believe anxiety has A LOT to do with it (at least for me, I feel this way). I began seeing weird visual stuff after a lot of anxiety. now, I don't feel as anxious as I used to, but it seems as if something was activated in my visual system by the anxiety and now I see all kinds of weird stuff that my doctors all say is 'normal' or that my eyes are healthy, so they say 'don't worry about it'. Now, that is easier said than done, especially for an anxious-hyperchondriac! LOL! I've been working on my anxiety and that has helped a little bit, so I am hopeful that if I continue to try to manage my anxiety things will get better. Who knows, but its worth a try.

Take care!

Re: Scared: Shimmering vision

Good advice likely includes a thorough exam by a retina-vitreous specialist or, at the very least, an opthalmologist. A couple good ones -- Massachusetts Eye and Ear or Wills Eye Institute in Phila******a. New Jersey also has an excellent group in New Brunswick called the Retina-Vitreous Center. I have photopsia (shimmers and white lights) that are quite severe at times. The best thing I've done was to get a good doctor and stay healthy (you know, exercise, eat right, etc.).

Re: Scared: Shimmering vision

Hi There, I want you to know that I experience the same things your talking about at a much more intense level. My vision is very grainy, shimmering etc. I also see tons of floaters in my vision and I have been checked for 8 years. I'm 35 and It started when I was 28. The Doctors don't have answers, but I am a highly anxiety person as well. I was told it could be due to anxiety, even though you don't feel stressed. Sometimes my eyes are better and sometimes they are worse. I wish I had all the answers too.
