My 8 year old sister was playing with my roomates cat 2 months ago when it suddenly jumped onto her face, digging its claws deeply into her left eye. Her eye was bleeding and she was in severe pain.. she had to be rushed to the hospital. The cornea and the iris were badly damaged. The injury left her completely blind in that eye and her doctor says it might be better cosmetically to remove it and get a prosthesis. She was speechless when he said this. Its been very hard for her to deal with all this and I'm not sure what to do. She is starting to adjust to seeing with one eye but I don't want her to give up. Is there anywhere I can get a second opinion on this? Is there a chance her eye can recover? Maybe surgery?

What a shame. I would advise you to see a cornea specialist. I'm assuming from the damage that a cornea transplant wouldn't work, but that is what I would be investigating.

Also, there is an alternative to an artificial eye that's called a scleral shell. It fits over the eyeball.
