Reading, Computers & New Glasses

Hi everybody,

I've never posted in this particular section, and I know very little about eyes or vision at all, so I'm not able to be much help to anyone else!

I have epilepsy, and I struggle with reading a lot, and looking at the computer screen. I went to the optician last week for a regular eye test, as I hadn't had one for a few years, and I wanted to rule out the possibility that the headaches weren't caused by poor eyesight.

Anyway, my eyesight is perfect, but the optician said that he can see that my brain interprets the light and print differently that it should. He recommended particular glasses to help, but was uncertain what would help in the long-term. I picked up the glasses today, and although they are making me feel slighty queasy, they seem to be reducing the intensity from the computer screen, and making looking it at a lot much easier (especially as I spend far too much time on the computer ).

Reading seems to be no easier, and I'm wondering if coloured filters/overlays would help as the optician suggested, along with the glasses. The test & glasses were free on the NHS, but they can't help with anything else.
Has anyone else experienced this? Or know how I can find out what (if any) colour filter would help with reading? And where to find them?

Thank you

Re: Reading, Computers & New Glasses

I once read an article about how coloured lenses helped children with learning disabilities. Can't remember now what colour lenses were used. I think there is a real possibility that they can help. I'm not sure exactly what filters are, so don't know how you could get or try them. My optometrist got samples of different coloured lenses in for me to try when I was bothered by photophobia (light sensitivity). Perhaps your optician could do the same and let you take them home to try for awhile. You could also do some research online about coloured lenses and disabilities to see which colour is recommended.
