Tear Duct stent in child

My son was bit by a dog in February and needed a stent in his tear duct to repair the damage. The tube is still in place and will remain there until August. When he saw his plastic surgeaon yesterday, we asked if he would be able to take swimming lessons this summer while the tube is in place, and she told us she honestly does not know.

Can anyone tell me if a child can swim with this tube in place? Thanks!

Re: Tear Duct stent in child

So sorry to hear what happened to your son...
(bumping you up so maybe someone might be some help to you)

P.S.
Have you asked about wearing eye goggles to keep water from getting in the eye?

Re: Tear Duct stent in child

So sorry about your son being bitten by a dog. I hope he has recovered very well.

Regarding swimming and the stent in his tear duc- I have an artificial tear duct - it is called a Jones tube. When I swim, I wear goggles as a precaution. I have never had a any problems. The goggles also protect your eyes from the harsh chlorinated water.

I send you best wishes.
