 Blepherospasm
For 11 months I've had problems with intermittent episodes of involuntary eye closure and by evening really having to fight to keep them open....it's not from being tired btw.
I walk around bumping into furniture,can no longer drive, read, watch TV for any length of time and light aggravates the condition. I went to two orthomologists and my vision is near perfect.
I was treated for dry eye syndrome, had punctal plugs put in, used eye drops throughout the day... told I might have Sjogrens Syndrome and still no relief. Now I think there is finally light at the end of the tunnel.
I went to a neurologist and he referred me to a neurological orthmologist. Never even knew they existed.
Blepherospasm is what he diagnosed. Although I can't get in until January for treatment. He is going to give me injections of botulinim toxin (Botox)in the muscles surrounding the eyes. It's supposed to work up to 3 months and IF I find relief will continue to go for injections.
Apparently it numbs the nerves around the eye muscle and stops the spasms.
I'm writing this because I've gone through 11 months of searching for answers to this problem because it's had such an impact on my quality of life. HOPEFULLY, I've finally found an answer and I'm writing this to possibly help anyone out there who also has a similar problem. I'll post after January to report if the injections help.
