Dry Eyes improved with arthritis drug - Eye & Vision Message Board

Hi everyone,

I just want anyone with inflammatory dry eye problems to know that Vioxx and Eyebright have helped me tremendously.

I had been to see many eye doctors about my eyes. They told me I had dry eyes and gave me some no good eyedrops you can buy at the drug store. I was in so much pain ..so then they put plugs in which did not help at all. I had to take disability from work for 3 months as well. My eyes burned all the time and my vision was blurred. One ophthalmologist put me on cyclosporine and it just made my eyes burn worse.

I am now recovering finally and went back to work. The eye doctors did not help me. I went to a neurologist because the pain was so bad and it went to my head. They did a bunch of tests on me and all were negative except one for inflammation..something called an ESR. He put me on Vioxx (a pill normally used for arthritis) about two months ago and it has worked a miracle. I am also taking Eyebright 3 times a day, which is an herb for inflammation. My eyes are feeling so much better.

I hope this information can help someone else.

Vioxx is an anti-inflammatory drug. Your dry eyes must have been caused by a lot of inflammation. I'm glad you found the answer to your problem. Did the doc say you have to take it every day? Can you take it sometimes? Do you still take it? Just curious. I'm so glad it has helped you.
