Will Lasik and RK ever be covered by insurance? - Eye & Vision Message Board

I have worn glasses/contacts since 5th grade, I am 29 now.
I would love to have one of these surgeries done and never have to wear contacts and glasses ever again.
I don't have good credit so I can't apply for financing.
Does anyone ever think insurance will cover this?

I don't think it will be covered under insurance,they say it is a cosmetic procedure,and that eyeglasses or contacts can be worn to correct vision problems.

Some insurance plans do cover a portion of refractive surgery procedures. However, there are very few that do. I can't remember any specifically off-hand. It is considered cosmetic/elective surgery in almost all cases.

Remember though, refractive surgery WILL NOT completely eliminate the need for glasses or contacts for the rest of your life. That is something many people do not realize.
