Unequal pupils - Eye & Vision Message Board

Has anybody ever experienced unequal pupils? One pupil dilates all by its little old self. It responds appropriately to light (constricts) and then "SPROING".. it dilates immediately all over again. If I walk into a bright room or turn on a light it will constrict and then dilate again. The eye doctor responded with a "hmmmm, now isn't that interesting...must be a carry over from that nasty flu you had." The problem is that I have now been over the "nasty flu" for 3 months! Anybody with any ideas?

Uhhh, get a second opinion...NOW!!!

Hi there-

I indeed am having a very similar problem, only my eye constricts fine in the light and doesn't begin to dilate till the dimmer light.

I've been pretty obsessed over it the past few months, wondering what girls are going to think and such. But I'm just now beginning to accept it and truthfully, no one notices is it. Has anyone said anything to you?

I would try not to worry. Easier said than done, I know, but try. If you wanna talk about it, drop another post.

P.S. - I agree with querty - get a second opinion. You might wanna rule out nerve damage and such

I have exactly the same thing with my right pupil and went to the eye doc and he said it is Adie's Tonic Syndrome- which is basically unequal pupils. But they believe something caused mine like nerve problems or some type of pressure on the brain. I have been having numbness and things and am getting MRI's done. Have you got any other symptoms? Have you had any eye infections? I suggest you see your primary doc (a new eye doc as well) and get them to do some MRI's just to be safe. But my eye doc says that some people just get it and sometimes it goes away all on its own. The eye doc can also give you some drops that constrict the pupil if you are worried about appearances.
