Having trouble driving with two eyes open, better with 1

Hello, im trying to practice to get my car licance because my mom is depending on me to. Im Having trouble driving with two eyes open. I focus on to one object and I have been practicing for 1 1/2 years now. But what I found is that when I close one eye (Right Eye) I drive way better. I can read better, my response time is excellent and the positives continue on. Does anyone know why this is? I dont want to where a pirate looking eye patch but I defently need to do something to block one eye. With two eyes open I become incredibly motion sick and disoriented. So Im sure its not going to impair me its actually quite the opposite.

Thank you

Have you had your eyes checked to find out why this is happening? It's possible a pair of glasses could fix it, if for example, you have better vision in one eye than in the other.

Re: Having trouble driving with two eyes open, better with 1

I am currently wearing a recently updated (1 1/2 year ago) lens, I still have my old frame. Ive had reading problems all my life, I have add, type 1 diabetes (blood sugars are perfect), and I THINK I might have autism but am too nervous to try to get it diagnosed. My vision is fine when I look normally at stuff but when im driving or reading or doing something that requires more hand eye coordination and better tracking its hard for me to do this. Also I have very poor reaction time for things.

jane is very right, get the eyes checked out. my father in law, after being a truck driver for many many years started having to close one eye just to be able to drive right. it was his glasses, his vision needs had changed and once the new glasses were there,he no longer had that problem. something sounds like it is just not in 'sync' between both of your eyes or it wouldn;t 'feel' the way it does right now when you drive, you know what i mean? its just not a normal type of thing you should have to do just to drive. one good eye exam would probably reveal the problem for you.

trying to drive with only one eye really places you and anyone else on the road at real risk sice you cannot use your normal level of peripheral vision to see things. it could be a disaster at some point if you don;t get this fixed hon. just get that exam and let us know how you are doing. FB

I absolutely agree with Feelbad. In addition to peripheral vision, your depth perception is off looking through only one eye, which may place objects closer to you than you think they are.

I cannot remember for sure (I knew someone a while ago who had your condition) but I think it is astigmatism?
