Scared of going blind

I'm 21 years old and extremely nearsighted. I am -12 in one eye and -10 in the other. My prescription is not changing quickly/much now I am older but it has not stopped changing completely.

I am very worried about my retinas tearing or detaching and also that my sight will just keep deteriorating until I can no longer see at all!!

What is the chance that my retinas will tear??

I am so worried about this. I can't sleep at night because I'm scared I'll wake up and not be able to see :[

Re: Scared of going blind

You have no reason to worry. Nearsightedness usually improves with age. It is farsightedness that deteriorates with age and also has a higher risk of retinal detachment due to the abnormal curvature at the back of the eye.

Nearsightedness should stabilize in mid-twenties.

Brian, are you sure you got that right? I think it's myopic eyes that are at risk of retinal damage because they are elongated. Farsighted eyes are flattened.
