Best O.T. C. drops for dry eyes???

Last week I had the punctal plugs put in. My left eye is better, but my right eye is worse. My Dr. said to give it some time and keep using eye drops. I have an Rx for Restasis but found out it will cost me $240.00 for a 30 day supply! OUCH! ..Can't do that. So now I'm back to O.T.C. drops. Do you have a favorite that you think works better then all the others? Also,do any of them have anything in them to help inflammation? I need moisture and something for inflammation.
thanks ,Kate

Re: Best O.T. C. drops for dry eyes???

One of the best lubrication drops is Systane and that should be available otc in your area. They may also help with the inflammation but only by virtue of reducing the irritation/friction of dry eyes. (Restasis is specifically an anti-inflammatory product.) I would be inclined to use the Systane or similar drops for a few days and see if that does reduce the inflammation. If not, you really need an anti-inflammatory product and they can only be obtained by prescription.
If the artificial tears are not adequate, try talking to a pharmacist. They are usually quite helpful at suggesting alternatives to precribed medicines.

Re: Best O.T. C. drops for dry eyes???

I tried everything and then finally found genteal. I used it daily for about 6 weeks before I had a difference but then the difference was amazing. Don't give up too quickly. It was really worth waiting for. Good luck - Lori
