Question 20/25 and 20/30 Vision and Questions!

I have trouble seeing things that are far away, so I went to the eye doctor today...And apparently my vision is 20/25 in one eye and 20/30 in the other, and I have a little astigmatism.

The doctor said that most people with vision like that don't get glasses, but he also noted that I obviously struggle with distance, and when he put a prescription on me, it definitely helped! So, I opted for getting glasses.

Did I make the right decision?

My mom thinks that I'm basically just making it up that I can't see distance really well and that I just want to have glasses. She's like "That's good, and I've never heard of anyone with vision like that getting glasses!"

Anyone here with vision like that wear glasses?

If you can see better with glasses, you made the right decision. It would be more useful if you could tell us what your prescription is, eg. -.50 or -1.25, or whatever--in other words, how slight or moderate the correction is.

I can see better with glasses. That's why I opted for them.

I don't know my prescription...But maybe my mom has it somewhere. I should find out though when I get my glasses next week, right?

Yes, if you ask for the numbers, they will tell you. Usually, they'll write them down for you. If the astigmatism is being corrected as well, there will be three numbers.

Alright. I'll ask when I go to get my glasses.

My glassees are ready, so I'll probably go and get them on Wednesday. It depends on how scheduling works out.

I got them =)

They're nice. I can definitely see more sharply than I can without them, and distance is much easier along with things that aren't even that far away like the computer.

School hasn't started yet, so I can't say anything about the blackboard, but from what I've experienced so far, I'm sure that they'll be a great help!

Thanks. I wore them for a good chunk of the day today, but then took them off. I'm not used to having something on my face.

You might notice that they cause soreness in places. Glasses often have to be taken back and adjusted after you've worn them for awhile. You didn't say they hurt, I realize, I'm just mentioning that.

Yeah...They seem OK. The only thing is, I'm not liking the floating lens* with my right eye. It just doesn't like to focus through the middle of the lens. There's nothing wrong with the RX, just that...And I know because when I cover that up with my hand, it's perfect. Anything to say?

* The lens isn't connected to the frame at the far edges

Re: 20/25 and 20/30 Vision and Questions!

Measurements are taken so that the focal point will be in the right spot. I don't see why it would matter whether the lens was attached to the frame on one side, as long as it's stationary. Why does it bother one eye and not the other?

I have no idea why it only bothers one eye...

You indicated glasses sometimes have to be adjusted because they hurt. What exactly is it that they "adjust" and what causes the pain?

Thanks,
Mike

The arms sometimes hurt the back of the ears and have to be bent slightly. Less often, the nosepads get uncomfortable and require adjustment, if they are that sort.
