I have no idea what to call this so I will simply describe what my son tells me. My son is 17 but has had this condition since he was very young. As a child he had what we thougth were night terrors. He would wake up in the middle of the night screaming and his eyes were almost trance like as he stared off in a particular direction. Those seemed to stop after a few years (up until he was maybe 7). Then he began to tell me (from about 6- 12) that as he lay in bed at night while I was telling him stories or just talking, that it sometimes seemed like I was growing huge in his sight and he was shrinking in his bed and it would scare him. He couldnt focus well and everything seemed to be collapsing around him. This would happen on a somewhat regular basis (monthly) but seemed to stop so I thought. Recently he told me that this still occurs. In fact the other night as we were talking it happened and he said that although he was about 8 feet away it appeared to him that he could reach out and touch me. It seemed that I was right in his face. He told me that this is what he had experienced since he was a kid but just learned to deal with it. I have wondered if this was something to do with ADD or some type of attention deficit. He has sometimes talked about having a hard time concentrating in school but he is not hyper nor has he had problems with behavior or grades. He is extremely athletic and in great shape. Any thoughts?
