An impression that won't go away?

Hi all -

You know when you look at something bright, it makes like a negative impression in your eye for the next few minutes or so? For a few days now I've got one that won't go away near the bottom of my left eye's vision. It's shape doesn't change and it's gotten progressively larger. I am not seeing flashes (although when I close my eyes, since the impression is negative it does appear bright).

I'm not convinced that it was anything I stared at because I don't really remember looking at anything so bright only with my left eye. I also don't think it's caused by any sort of injury..

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Can you see through the spot, or is it a blind area?
I think you should see an eye doctor.

Re: An impression that won't go away?

That's the best thing to do.

It doesn't seem to be a case of after-image, but if you're interested, you can research "palinopsia" online.

Well the eye docs didn't seem too concerned.. they didn't find anything suggesting it would be retinal, but all articles talking about palinopsia says it's brain related? YIKES! Maybe I should schedule something with the medical docs

It doesn't sound like palinopsia to me because it doesn't go away. ******** an Amsler grid and use that to keep track of this thing. Since you can see through the spot, it might not show up on the grid, but you can give it a try.
Don't know what else to tell you except to keep "an eye on it".
