Now I'm waiting to get a referral from my primary care doctor, which shouldn't be a problem. And I think it'll be covered by insurance, so... WOW. I've been wanting to try this since I first heard of it four or five years ago but couldn't find anyone who was close enough to seriously consider doing it... Wow. I got a call from the nurse at this clinic this morning and she really offered some good information.
I had always been told that nothing could be done for my amblyopia since it was treated with surgery when I was 4 (I'm 41 now). She was telling me about an article in The New Yorker this month about "Stereo Sue" who got her binocular/stereoscopic vision back with vision therapy -- in her late 40's! And she told me how doctors have revised the idea that the nerves of the eye will atrophy after years of disuse (old paradigm) to the idea that those nerves actually stay active because they are used for more than sight perception.
Oh, I'll stop. It is just such an exciting prospect!
