First off, hello to all. I am a new guy and this looks like an extremely informative site. I live in GA.
I noticed about two years ago a blue ring around my brown eyes. Everything I have read said it was a heart attack waiting to happen, due to high cholesterol. My family history is terrible when it comes to heart problems; every male on my Fathers side has died from a heart attack.
What test's would a Dr. put me through to check this out? Can the blue be caused by something else?
First, a cholesterol blood test. Without very high cholesterol in the blood, it's unlikely to be "arcus cornealis".
People with severe dry eyes can develop corneal scaring that mimics the blue/grey "ring" effect. A doctor or eye doc can tell the difference right away, corneal scaring isn't uniform all the way around like the cholesterol bands are.
