| Re: what is macular scarring
Forgive me, maryfat, for disagreeing with someone who is involved with AMD support but I have recently been diagnosed with a complication of my macular oedema (thought to be due to the removal of an epiretinal membrane) and I have therefore studied this subject extensively.
From what I have read, I agree with you that scarring beneath the retina is one form of AMD (Dry) but there is also the 'wet' form of the condition in which new blood vessels (neovascularisation) leak onto the surface of the macula and cause scarring there.
In either case, early treatment can help to reduce the progress of the condition so a visit to an eye hospital is recommended.
