Bright lights in vision

Hi!

I keep getting flashes of lights in my eyes, mostly my left eye, that look like after burners - as if someone's just used their camera or I've looked at a bright light. So its kind of bright then fades to bluey colour and is more visible when I blink. Sometimes these are more like sparkles rather than lights.
I tend to get them more when I have been working out, running, or have just got up quickly or bent over.
They are totally different to the lights I get when I have a migraine - these appear at the top of my vision and tend to be zig zag and make me a bit blind! These ones are more in the bottom/centre of my vision near my nose.
They have been happening for at least 2 years now, at first I presumed they were to do with migraine so would either take pills as a precaution or neck a pint of water to avoid a migraine. But they never turn into migraines.
So then I thought maybe it was my glasses/vision so have had a brand new prescription done and a load of test and my eyes are completely normal - no retinal detachment!
My optician says it could be vascular.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

Slight worry about it being a brain tumor!!

Thanks

Lou

Re: Bright lights in vision

You can get the migraine aura without ever getting a headache.

It's ocular migraine or retinal migraine, retinal is more serious and can cause vision loss. I have RM and lost some vision in my left eye.

And go see a real eye doctor! Not an glorified eyeglass salesman!

Re: Bright lights in vision

Those lights may very well be vascular or blood-pressure related, however, unless you went to an actual eye doctor you should go there. Seeing bright lights or flashes (especially when moving your eye or blinking) may (as you said yourself) be signs for retinal detachment.
