For almost 4 years I've been seeing random pinpricks of light. They only happen occasionally but usually every day. they only show up for a fraction of a second but are pretty bright..
The past year I've been seeing something different though: larger blotches of color that linger for up to maybe 15 seconds. These are a lot like the spots you see when you look away from a bright light, but the ones I see are definitely not from looking at lights. Multiple times I've been staring continuously at a non-bright place and they'd show up. Sometimes, though rarely, my eye will even hurt at the same time i see them. And unlike the flashes, these are much more frequent and can get pretty annoying.
I'm mainly curious as to what would cause this.. I can't seem to find much info about flashes of lights and color. (they're not floaters or anything by the way)
The only thing I can find about it would be retinal tear/detachment, but it's been 4 years and I can still see as well as before.

I also have experienced flashing lights and colors.
My ophthalmologist said it was good that I made a prompt appointment as those can be the symptoms of a retinal detachment, which if left untreated can lead to blindness.
In my case, I had a tear of the vitreous humor in both eyes, which led to the appearance of floaters.
Another ophthalmologist told me that dehydration and lack of eye exercises (due to long hours on the computer) can cause that, so urged frequent sips of water and breaks from the computer. It was also suggested that I not use graduated lenses or bifocals as there seems to be a connection between those types of lenses and eye problems.

Hello! Did you ever find out what this was? I am dealing with the exact same symptoms and would really like to know if you found out anymore on this. I don't believe it is anything serious. Just wanted to know. Thank you!
