Lens Target margin of error is usually .25 either way...sounds like yours was off .50 ? (not 500?)
Also sounds like a fragment of your old lens dropped behind your capsular sac into the new fluid. This can happen, even with a good surgeon.
Hang in there and think positive. Ask specific ? to your surgeon, but also educate yourself !
Hi Tubint,
Sounds like you have some real experience with all this. I've done so much research, I think I've made myself a little crazy. Thanks for sharing and can I ask you what caused the scar tissure in your eye to require a vitrectomy?
Thanks again for all your info,
eyemar

Re: Question about vitrectomy surgery then cataract surgery in same eye

I know what you're talking about with the extensive research...I've done the same. My personality type makes me want to understand it all, not just listen to the brief explanations the Dr. gives me. It is overwhelming though.
In regards to what caused my scar tissue...I have been trying to figure that out since I discovered it. I asked the 4 Retina Sp. what they think caused it, but none of them gave a direct response.
I threw out a few ideas of mine like the huge roller coaster rides (I recently took prior to discovery of scarring) at Magic Mtn. one of which the G-force made me black out for a minute.
Also, I ride tubes behind boats on the lake which bounce and thrash hard. Also, I fall from the tubes & waterskiing on my eyes pretty hard sometimes.
Also, I considered the bright light on my 16x makeupmirror that I get close to several times daily. Could that have been burning my retina???
Also, falling on my head from snow skiing...could that have caused it ?
Or, possibly PVD Posterior Vitreous Detachment, of which happens to everyone. Perhaps that was in motion and a head thrash forced it to tug hard on the retina?

Those are my theories, how about yours...any ideas?

Re: Question about vitrectomy surgery then cataract surgery in same eye

What I do know is that my scar tissue was extremely thick, and right over my Macula (central vision) area. I got to 20/200 and could not even see any real shapes in that eye, just blurry blobs. No real distortion or wavy lines though. The OCT tests showed my retina really swollen and tugged at from the scar tissue. I asked if it was likely that the scar tissue would just fall away from the retina on it's own (read it was possible) and all the Docs said "no way" in my case as it was so severe. Surgery to remove it was my only chance at recovering any vision in that eye...so I went for it.

I don't want to ramble on with details, but feel free to ask me anything. What have you learned thru all of this ?

Hi Tubint,
Thanks for your reply. Your scar tissue, sounds like what my Retina sp. just called the "viterous gel" . My veterous gel, which two sp. told me normally just "slides" off in the form of floaters, was attaching to my retina and causing me to see wavy lines and just poor overall vision, (i don't know my exact numbers). but they could never really give me an explainations, other than sometimes "stress" causes this. They did tell me that the gel may "fall off" on it's own, but after two months of "watching" it, my vison kept getting worse and they suggested i have the vitrectomy to avoid a complete retina detachment. I had had shingles about one month prior to my vison problems. Shingles broke out on the right side of my head and one particularly over my right eye, (which is my problem eye) and my eye swelled really bad. I went to an eye specialist when i had the shingles, and he told me they were not in my eye, so I thought i would be fine. Then about a month later is when i started having problems. Anyway, the 2 retina sp. I saw, said that the shingles had nothing to do with it, but i think it probaly did. sorry, for rambling on, but i was curious about what you had thought may have caused your scar tissue. Thanks again,
eyemar
