Sudden cloudy vision in Left eye

Hello,

I was driving relatives home from the airport 2 nights ago and was hit with an extremely bright white double strobe-like light out of nowhere. I thought it might be a speed camera of some new design but don't really have a clue as it was on a highway and I passed it in total darkness. This may or may not be related to the following vision issue although neither of the other people in the car have developed any vision issues

Anyway, the next day I started to see what seemed to be floaters in my Left eye while sitting in front of the computer screen. Black dots that moved away when I focused on them and also an irregular shaped greyish area near the bottom of the field of vision of that eye. It has a somewhat transparent character and appears feathery. I also began seeing flashes of light on the far left corner of the eye. Today it suddenly changed again to a cloudy or dirty window effect. When I look at the sky as a background, I see a zillion little dots in a blurry haze out of that eye. The right eye is fine but the focus in the left is very soft. The flashes are still there and even seem to occur when the eye is closed when the flashing is active.

I haven't been able to get to a doctor of any kind due to the family just arrived from out-of-town but I will try tomorrow when I have a down day with no commitments.

Many, many thanks for any help or opinions.
Paul

Re: Sudden cloudy vision in Left eye

See an eye doctor.
It *may* be an acute (not from age) cataract.

Re: Sudden cloudy vision in Left eye

You may have a retina detaching.Do not delay in seeing a specialist. It can be lasered and stopped from doing more damage.I hope this is not the case but please don't put it off for any reason as these thing can take your sight.
Wishing you well and keep us posted.

Re: Sudden cloudy vision in Left eye

Apologies for the long delay in replying. I lost track of where I posted but found an auto-generated response in an old spam folder which lead me back here.

Many thanks to you both for your swift replies. It was a case of detached retina in several places, which was treated the same day following my 2:00 appt. on 6/12 with an opthamologist, Dr. Yeh. One emergency call from him and I was set up with The Washington Retina Group. My retina surgeon, Dr. Desai, proved to be the man in this case for the job. I arrived around 3:30 to a still very full waiting room and left around 7:30 as we literally closed the shop following my emergency laser surgery.

Dr Desai was extremely professional and despite the late hour, after what was obviously a long day, was in no hurry to finish the job. I would say anal was more descriptive of his attention to detail and my left eye would second that. But I was deeply appreciative and that kind of careful attention made the soreness of my eyeball and socket more easy to handle. I had no idea the eyeball could be that manipulated without lingering damage.

On a personal note, I have had more than my fair share of very good luck with doctors when I've needed them and this case was certainly no exception. Excellent examinations and treatment by all parties involved, especially the surgeon, and my left eye is now healed. My progress since surgery is such that I will be going back for my second 1 month visit in a few days and from then on probably every 6 months or so.

Thanks for showing interest and taking the time to reply to my query.

Paul
