| Juvenile diabetes/macular edema
I'm sorry if the answer is right under my nose on this board, but right now I'm stressed and just wanted to ask my question. I'm 23 and have had juvenile diabetes for 20 years. All parts of my body are fine except my eyes; about a year ago I was diagnosed with macular edema. My eye doctor told me that I can "keep my vision for decades" but I'm wondering if this is true. For example, I have had only one treatment, and that was 7 months ago, and I still have laser spots. My next treatment, I'm getting it close to the center of my eye and that scares me. Has anyone else gone through this? If I keep going to my appointments and keep getting the treatments, will I really keep MY vision, or just a sub-par but somewhat acceptable shadow of my former vision? I'm very stressed about it; I'm going to college, working, etc. I just want to know from personal experience if the treatments really do help and if they will ruin my vision anyway or not.
