Question Macular Degeneration and Aspirin

Research findings announced here in Australia today said that taking even a small dose of aspirin (eg that taken to lower cardiac risk, by slightly thinning the blood), even if only once weekly, appears to result in a 2.5x increase in chances of developing MD.

I wondered if there were any safe alternatives to aspirin - I can't think of any right now?
Others here might know.

Re: Macular Degeneration and Aspirin

Interesting finding, thanks for posting this.

I don't take aspirin but I do take Ginko Biloba which also thins the blood/improves circulation to the brain. Fish oil also thins the blood; if I take too much or too often I bruise easily. Whether they have the same effect for cardio issues, I don't know. I doubt anyone studied them from the AMD perspective.

Re: Macular Degeneration and Aspirin

Interesting thread. I wonder if Ibuprofen, for eye inflammation, has the same effect as asperin?
