Betty, steroid use should be avoided. Some people respond to it by developing higher eye pressure which can lead to Glaucoma. With a family history of it, don't take a chance. Trouble is, you don't know if you're a 'steroid responder' until it's too late and the damage is done.
I'd recommend you find a holistic doctor who will treat the cause of the problem, not just the symptoms. They tend to keep away from drugs. I did that (had bad sinus problems and nasal congestion) many years ago and was helped tremendously. Another thing you can do is use a Netti pot or something that serves a similar function, which is to flush out and soothe the nasal passages and sinuses. It really works and does lower the symptoms of allergies, year 'round or seasonal. I douche my nose every morning; I don't feel right if I haven't done it.
Hope these suggestions help!
