My mom and I think my brother is huffing butane by taking lighter fluid and doing something with it and somehow huffing it. He has lighters all over his room and he always takes off the little metal piece on the top of them.

We are very worried about him though and every time we ask him he denies it, but what the heck would you look for in a case like this?

What are the symptoms of huffing? Is there any way to drug test him for huffing at all as well?

hi, i hope your bro is ok.

i sniffed a little in my very early teens, in the uk in the 80's it was quite the thing to sniff glue/gas. wasnt really my bag tho. of all the people i knew who tried it (and that was probably quite a few - none ever died of it. i say this as some of the statistics out there look quite harsh. saying that - it is very dangerous).

Not to freak you out, but the lighter thing is a telltale sign that someone is smoking crack. They can go through more than a lighter a day, and usually take the metal piece off to make the flame longer, so they can smoke it through a pipe. I've had to deal with crack addiction in the past and scratched my head for a long time over the lighter thing. I would find piles of disgarded lighters with the metal pieces missing... I too wondered if he was trying to do something with lighter fluid, but when crack addiction is present, the truth usually comes out pretty quickly.

I'm not saying that is what is going on, just sharing my experience.
