Hello!
My Mom who is 78 years young, was dx with "Ductual Carcinoma In Situ".
It was "stage 0" with a good size margin removed along with it.
Her surgeon (also a breast cancer specialist) explained DCIS and schedule a follow up appt with a Radiaologist.
Today, the Radiaologist went over the pros and cons of radiation. She stated that without it, the reoccurence was 30% and with it the reoccurence was 15%.
My Mom is in fairly good health. She has high BP (under control with med) and severe osteoporasis, she is a very petite 5', 90 pounds.
We left the Radiaologist's office with the decision rather to have the radiation or not. It would be 5 days a week for 5 weeks.
I would like to know your suggestions, advice, experiences and opinions. I feel like yes, she should do it, anything to lower her risk! right? But then again, I worry about the risk of radiation since she is 78, very thin and fragile.
Please chime in with your thoughts, I would love to hear from someone who understands what she is going through.
Thank you!!!
