my tough daddy

My dad recently had a biopsy done at the dermatologist(in the axillary region-punch biopsy i think) that came back cancer(but not melanoma). He was immediately referred to an oncologist who is awaiting insurance approval now for the CT and PET scan. He is having a mammogram done today. I know he doesn't have a lot of information to tell me right now, and I'm not sure he would want to even if he did know more. What could all of this be? I don't know anything about what a cancerous biopsy means.
