How to get someone to seek help...Bipolar?
I am trying to find some help on convincing a friend to get help for his issues but do not know how to approach him. Every few months he gets really down but lately it's been happening more often.
I work with this person and have known him for about 5 years. He says I am like a mother to him. He is very negative about everything. I am one of the very few people he trusts to share some of his feelings with. He has mentioned having feelings of hurting himself but says he wouldn't and also about hurting 'others'.
He complains about work and co-workers and life in general. He mostly opens up in emails to me. He recently sent me a disturbing email in which he basically attacked me and I was surprised & hurt to read this. A few weeks later he apologized and said he was just having one of his moods.
Yesterday, he emailed and said that he thinks he is probably bipolar but can not talk to someone about his feelings because they probably wouldn't understand and can deal with it on his own.
I think this is probably a good time to approach him about getting help but do not know how to start conversation without hurting his feelings or having him shut down.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!!
