Hi Everyone,
My mother is A 54 YR old lady, shes worked all her life never depending on anyone.Recently shes been having a few episodes..She thinks people from work are following her, she thinks the managers at her (USED TO BE WORK PLACE) are investigatos. She says she heard someone tell her to get up at 3am and to sit in the balcony to laught al people, and she did for several hrs..also, anyperson that she sees, they look like someone else..In one of her episodes she called and asked to be taken to the hospital because she was not feeling well, they left her the mental hospital for 10 days..She was given Seraquel 300 mg and Celexa...Please if thees anyone out there that can give me some advice,,I dont know what to do, I feel hopeless..
Let me start by saying, I am not a doctor, or licensed to give any medical advice..........
I believe that the later in life that a person becomes schizophrenic, the worse the symptoms become ( I read it in a "Surviving Schizophrenia: Third Edition" ). Hopefully that's not the case, and you've missed the symptoms or she was excellent at hiding them. I am not familiar with laws pertaining to forcing someone to get help, but I'm sure the information is accessible through an online search. I would recommend that you borrow a schizophrenia help guide from the library( preferably the newest one available ). It may help you and your family, and some books have useful information about laws, and government funded help near the back. And obviously, she needs to be medicated, and follow through with doctor appointments. You will probably be put out as well. I have never had to be accountable for someone with schizophrenia, but I assume my family/friends didn't take joy in dealing with me. Just remember that schizophrenia is treatable, and people can live relatively normal lives with it..........I wish you and your family the best of luck.

I don't know about the stages of schizophrenia, but from what you described, it looks like the illness peaked ( or got pretty close ). At least she requested that she be taken to a doctor. I view that as a good sign. Just remember that most of the anti-psychotic medicines take a while to go into effect. The doctors may also need to tweak dosage, or change her meds altogether. I'm assuming this whole deal will test your patience.
