Working w/Someone who need HELP
Have a friend here a work who a little over a month ago all of a sudden got big time paranoia about IRS coming and putting her in jail for tax fraud. She realized that she has made some errors on her tax returns over the past 10 years on mileage & a split 1098 deduction and it has freaked her out. She cries all the time and will not listen to any reason. Has called 2 different accountants 6 times who have told her that she is fine - all is within reason. Initially called her family doc - perscribed Xanax (over the phone) - took 1 pill - made her sleepy. Didn't take any more. Then over the phone prescribed something else - took 1 pill didn't like it. Finally after 2 weeks SAW the doc who put her on an anti-depressant but that doesn't seem to be working. We've told her she need to see a therapist/psychiatrist as our talking to her isn't helping. But she is adament about not going. Her DH has just about had it. (He's tried to support her but he's tired of hearing her broken record). She keeps saying her kids are going into foster care with her in jail. Basically - at this point I don't even think a psychiatrist will get through to her. (I think she needs in-patient) I've asked her what will make her feel beter - NOW and she says she doesn't know. Keeps harping on these tax returns that are wrong. So I said call IRS and tell them to see what they say. (She thinks she's on some watch list for criminals-when basically all that is "off" on her returns is maybe $3k a year and she's always had to pay each year and not get a refund. Their income is about $120k).
It's scary since you read about people committing suicide for "tax problems" and wonder why when there is nothing wrong and she seems like the prime candidate.
We don't know what do any more. This has been our friend for over 10-15 years and we want to get her help.
