| | I would really like to understand but having difficulty!!!
I have been friends with someone for the past 5 years that has had a long term diagnosis of bipolar/paranoid schizophrenia with psychotic tendencies. She has as long as I've known her been compliant with the medications prescribed by her physician. We met at our former place of employment. Another coworker, found out that my friend had these diagnoses, and began spreading "the word" that my friend was "a time bomb waiting to go off", and "not fit to be around and care for the elderly", our former place of employment was at a nursing home. This other coworker also made fun and derisive remarks to family members regarding my friend, and mimicked her facial ticks (Tardiff dyskenesia). My friend is high functioning, a college graduate. My friend reported this discriminatory behavior to the Administration at this facility, but the failed to and didn't want to investigate. I was appalled. My friend was terminated. I prompted her to file a complaint of discrimination based on her disability. It was a long and arduous process, because I wrote her complaint, wrote her rebuttal to the facilities answer to her complaint. I've just about had it with my friend myself, I find her to be selfish, self-serving, narcisstic, I feel Ive given alot and she is always asking for more, or insist I continue to prove that I am her friend. She does not see any of the hard work I've done for her. Is this, these charachteristics part of this mental illness???
