There are features of the vBulletin program that are on or off according to the rules and policies of this website. When a feature is not accessible to you, please refer to the Posting Rules to see how it may affect you.

Use of this website requires that you register an anonymous username. Usernames and passwords from other websites do not work on this website.

Healthboards is for patient to patient support.

No member may act as board leader or expert or determine what another member needs.

This site is not a venue for professional advice or opinion. Do not register or include your past, current or future health topic profession in any manner. The boards are to be used for PATIENT PEER support, only. Professional titles lend undue weight to what is to be only patient opinion.

This website is to be used in English only. No exceptions.
Use whole words. Do not use chat or text message lettering, such as U for you, R for are, cos for because, etc., in consideration of readers that need to translate from other languages.

ADMINISTRATOR EMAIL ADDRESS:

BLOG and MESSAGE BOARD DIFFERENCES. All rules apply to blogs & posts.

Message Boards are for asking questions and interacting with the regular members.

Blogs are only for journaling your own board topic related experience.

In Blogs do not address other members for any reason.

Do not request comments or ask questions. Blogs containing questions will be deleted.

GENERAL WEBSITE USE (Requests that are not within the rules will always be denied.)

Email the Administrator regarding any board use issue not found in the Terms of Service in the FAQ or on the Registration board. You will get a reply at the earliest possible convenience. Please email one time and wait your turn for a reply.

When you email always include your exact username and email from your registered address. Do not contact moderators. Moderators will forward emails back to the Administrator.

By accepting registration you agree to be bound by administrator and moderator decisions.

Complaining or arguing about Administrator or moderator instructions or decisions is not acceptable.
Any kind of disrespectful communication to or about those doing their job of enforcing the rules is cause for permanent ban.

POSTING RULES & TERMS of SERVICE
Posts, profiles and usernames may be moderated without warning. Members are responsible to learn and follow all rules and instructions on your own.

Upon registering, you agree and commit to be subject to all Rules, Terms, Policies, and Disclaimer, including all administrative and moderator decisions and instructions, which are not up for discussion or debate. If you find that you do not want these terms, you agree to quietly move on to websites more to your preference and not disrupt this community.

Infractions & Suspensions:
Infractions are private communications that no one else can see, from Admin or Moderators to members. Infractions are not for debate. A suspension may be given without warning at any time to stop misuse of the website. There is no obligation to give a warning before an infraction or suspension. Breaking any rule can result in either a no-point warning or accruing points that can result in your membership being rendered Inactive.

Good posts do not negate disallowed posts. A suspension may be appealed, but there is no obligation to release it.

Only moderators are to provide board use instructions and decisions in order to keep instructions as uniform as possible.
Do not act as a Moderator or Facilitator, to tell members if, what or where to post. Doing so is considered to be incorrect assumption of authority over other members. Either ignore or else report the post so that correct instruction may be given.

If a post seems inappropriate click "Report Bad Post".
Do not post defensively or reactively to abusive or problem posts, thereby creating more work for moderators to remove inappropriate posts.
Do not report posts just because you disagree with the opinion.
Do not debate or argue member opinions.
Do not engage in side discussion on other member's threads.

Posts become the property of this website to be edited, moved or deleted as deemed to best serve the community.
Please use the closest appropriate board topic. Save a copy of your own posts that you wish to keep.

Off-board contact
Do not post or blog to request or offer any kind of contact for any reason. This attracts spammers and will be treated like advertising.

Private Messaging (PM) is available only to long term members.
PM is not available to Newbies.

Do not discuss PM on the boards for any reason.
When PM is not available or is OFF, respect this and do not post about it.

If the member PM is ON you may PM the member one time to see if your PM is accepted by the member. If so, then PM the member again to request permission before sending any product or service information. Otherwise the member may report your message as spam and your membership will be terminated.

[to top]

The number of views does not reflect how many have board access.
No one is obligated to reply, so make sure you posted on the appropriate board and be patient with members who are dealing with their own problems.

One registration is allowed per person.
Only the registered person may use the registration.
The member is responsible for any misuse of his/her membership.
Be aware that a suspension will affect everyone using the same computer.

The "Search" feature may be periodically turned off when the server is busy.
If it is OFF, please try it at another time. We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion.

SECURITY

Use an Avatar or Profile Picture that expresses your personality; do not use your own or any person's real photograph.

The message boards are to be used Anonymously
Your username must not personally identify you elsewhere.
(Read the FAQ 'how to')

Usernames that are not within the rules or are deemed to be inappropriate may be changed or suspended without notice.

Common first names are OK, however, posting sur names, dates or locations can negatively affect your employment and health insurance.
Do not compromise your identity and personal information. Edit your posts/blog if you entered compromising info. We have no control over search engines.

NO FREE ADVERTISING
Free advertising of any kind is not permitted in any place on this website, for any reason.

eHealthForum.com is a 'Sister-site' to Healthboards, and is allowed. However, do not merely post a link to any website. It will be deemed to be advertising.

A product or service may be named and opinion shared in one post, on one board, without any kind of contact information posted or offered. Multiples of similar messages will be deemed to be advertising.

Do not post an unapproved website name or URL for any reason. If a website promotes anything of any kind, then it is deemed to be a commercial website regardless of its information. This includes medical and news media websites.

Whether or not you personally or financially benefit, any kind of information in your profile, signature, blogs, or posts that name, promote or advertise free or commercial services, resources, videos, websites, forums, blogs, clinical trials, fund raising, surveys, or products will be treated as advertisement. (See How to Share Information, below, for more information.)

Patient opinions and sharing MUST be respected.
Each health topic board is for the people who HAVE the illness.
The boards are not place to vent or discuss dealing with others who have the board topic disease or health problem. Tell your OWN health story, not someone else's.

Boards specifically for family & friends of those with illness/problems: 'Family & Friends' boards, Caretakers, Parenting, Relationship Health, Mental Health.
Use the closest appropriate board.

Please carefully read these additional rules for participating on the Healthboards Message Boards and Blogs

Reach Out Before You Feel Alone or Suicidal
If you are having SUICIDAL THOUGHTS please do not try to handle them alone.
Please feel free to talk about depression and let members here encourage you and help you discover solutions to problems.

Do not post about suicide on the boards or in Blogs as it can be triggering to readers that are already suffering. The boards are NOT an appropriate place for posting that you want to die or to discuss suicidal thoughts, hurting others or hurting yourself. Such posts are inappropriate and will be removed.

Do not reply to posts expressing a suicide ideation. Report those posts so they can be given immediate help.

Use Good Personal Judgment

Members and Moderators are not healthcare professionals.

No member may act as board leader or expert or determine what another member needs.

NEVER rely on information or opinions to replace necessary personal consultation with qualified health or medical professionals. This forum is for support, empowerment, sharing opinions and entertainment. Healthboards.com is not a professional advice forum, and no one should use it as such.

Also, remember that what's right or has worked for one person may not be what's right for you. Your personal set of circumstances will always influence what's best or right for you. Talk with your physician or personal health professional about the benefits, risks and costs of various options and alternatives in order to make an informed, confident personal choice.

Don't Be Afraid To Post

If you're new to our community, taking the step for the first time to post publicly to a message board can sometimes seem intimidating. Don't be afraid to jump into a discussion. We have a very supportive community that serves up heavy doses of encouragement and enthusiasm. While we hope that you'll become an active participant and join in our discussions, you're welcome, of course, to simply hang out silently until you feel more comfortable posting a message.

[to top]

Respect Privacy, Be Safe, and Do Not Post Identifying Information

Do not post details of court cases. Posting or revealing identifying details about a legal case can be used against you in a court of law.

Respect others' privacy when they are Inactive. When or if they want to return is soon enough to reconnect.

Do not post your own or other people's identifying info or real names.

If you are under age 17, do not post your age. Post that you are a teen. Use the Teen Health Boards, and if age 16-19, you may use Sexual Health-Teen.

Please be safe: keep personal information private and remind your children to do so, too. When a reader sees your names and location, it is not hard at all to discover where you live from information on local public records. Remember that posts are picked up by search engines and may circulate on the World Wide Internet for years to be read by anyone in the world.

[to top]

How to Share Information

Stay on the board health topic, and share your own experiences that are pertinent to the thread originator's subject.

Read and follow all Sticky Post reminders and moderator instructions on each board.

Pictures of gender organs or real people's pictures may not be posted.

Discussion of illegal drug use is limited to the Addiction Recovery Board, in regard to recovery.
Other discussion of illegal activity is not a subject for this website.

Again: Blogs and Message Boards each have different purposes.
Please read the 'How to' in the FAQ.

Do not post, promote or advertise videos, message boards, forums, or other meeting websites. When PM is not available to you here, respect that.

Do not post research studies, college or school projects, or polls for any reason.

Politics are off-topic. Do not name or post negative comments about countries, specific professionals or public figures for any reason.

United States .gov website URLs are allowed ONLY IF specifically requested by the thread originator.

NOT all .org or .edu sites or other country sites may be posted.

Do not copy and paste anything from outside websites or resources.

Naming a book or article title and author, or a doctor's name w/city/state is allowed as long as no other contact information is posted. Also, post once. Multiple similar posts will be deemed to be advertising.

Do not post or blog songs, poems, stories, articles, etc, whether your own or anyone else's.

If you are unsure whether something is allowed, you may request possible preapproval by email

Have fun, Get Serious, Be Yourself

Be yourself! As long as it is within the terms of use, there are no other rules about how best to get in touch with yourself and others. Share your joys and laughter, tears and fears. This is the key to connecting with others who understand it is OK to just be yourself.

If you're feeling alone or hurting, don't be afraid to share. If you're rejoicing about the results of a recent medical test or treatment, share that too. If something funny happened to you today that can help lighten others' hearts, we want to hear about it so that we can laugh too. Sharing who you are is considered healthy medicine at HealthBoards.com.

[to top]

Agree to Disagree

DO NOT CRITIQUE POSTED OPINION or ATTACK ANYONE. Others are entitled to have their own opinions and to make their own choices. Negative communications to or about members are inappropriate.

This is not a place to post slanderous or hateful statements about any person or nation. Derogatory comments especially aimed at sexual orientation, gender, race, color, religious beliefs, nationality, or DISABILITY -- are not permitted.

BEFORE you post a message that may embarrass, humiliate or harass a person or group of people, stop and THINK first! Harassing communications are deemed to be any words that may cause distress, embarrassment, unwanted attention or other discomfort.

What is good for you may not be the answer for another. No one must follow your advice. NO one is to act as an expert on what is appropriate for someone else. SUPPORT OTHERS in their health decisions for themselves. Providing your opinion should be polite, and not result in disparaging remarks or religious discussions, or one-upsmanship. Both medical and alternative solution opinions belong on the boards. Even if you disagree with an idea, it still may be the solution for another. Decisions about health and well-being are highly personal, individual choices. If you disagree with a person's post or opinion, do not debate the reply. You may state your opinion to the thread originator, once, then move on without argument.

Likewise, expect to get some opinions you may not like or find helpful. If so take what you want and ignore the rest. Do not attack members that took time to reply.

When a member asks for support only, please respect the request; do not reply with contradictory comments.

[to top]

Do not SHOUT

Let it out, but don't SHOUT at one another. Shouting online (typing in all capital letters) is considered by some to be rude and difficult to read. To others, especially individuals with some types of disabilities, typing in all caps (or in all lower case) is a necessity (Using the shift key can be a struggle for a lot of folks). If it is necessary, please use all lower case letters. Be sure to inform others so they understand.

[to top]

Welcome Newcomers

When newcomers arrive, say "hi" and welcome them onboard the community. Help new folks to become involved.

Post to all readers: do not start cliquey, general subject threads. Posts that call out to or center around a group of specific members are inappropriate.

[to top]

Keep Posts Clean

Do not post obscenity or vulgar language, or describe explicit sex acts.
There may be places where suggestive, explicit, obscene or vulgar language, graphics or behavior are permitted, but HealthBoards.com is not one of them.
Posts that are deemed in any way to be inappropriate, or that solicit or offer explicit or X-rated GIFs, JPEGs or other graphic files will be deleted.
Usernames with sexual or negative implication/content will be banned.

(Post messages about gender body parts on Women's Or Men's Health Boards, and address sexuality only on a Sexual Health Board.)

[to top]

Do Not Post Copyrighted Information

Information copyrighted or owned by any individual or entity is not to be posted on healthboards. All website content is considered the property of that website. If such an event occurs, the individual that posted the information shall be held solely responsible. HealthBoards.com shall not be held responsible for posted information that may violate copyright law. Do not post or blog your own original material. Once known, such posts will be removed as soon as possible.

[to top]

Avoid Duplicate Posts (Cross-Posting)

Do not post similar or same messages more than once on a message board or blog. Duplicate messages may be deemed to be advertising. They also can be frustrating to others who end up reading essentially the same post in multiple threads or board topics. It is best to post your message in the forum that most closely relates to your message subject and allow time for the others to see and respond to your post, rather than posting it in numerous other forums. Or, you may email administrator to request that your post be moved to a different board topic.
Duplicate messages will be removed as soon as seen or reported.

Additionally

Use of healthboards.com constitutes acceptance of all Terms, Rules, Policies, Guidelines, Disclaimer, and any administrative/moderator instructions.

This website is private property, and its use is a not a right. HealthBoards.com reserves the right to prohibit or remove any post (copy any posts you wish to keep). Healthboards reserves the right to organize topical boards and posts and/or deny or revoke membership for any reason.

HealthBoards.com reserves the right to prohibit or delete messages that are deemed to violate Federal or local laws or that may be deemed harmful to others. That said, HealthBoards.com does not have the practical ability to restrict conduct or communications that might violate HealthBoards.com guidelines prior to transmission on the Internet, nor can they ensure prompt removal of offending message board posts.

Re-read the rules regularly as they may be updated.

How Do I Use HealthBoards.com?

GENERAL BOARD USE: Before you contact Admin, please always read the FAQ, the sticky posts on the board of choice and the Registration/Membership/Site Problems Message Board.
The Administrator's email address is listed below, and in a sticky post on the Registration Board; use that email address for any board use issue not found in the Terms of Service in the FAQ or on the Registration board. You will get a reply at the earliest possible convenience. Email one time and wait your turn for a reply.

ADMINISTRATOR EMAIL ADDRESS:

There are features of the vBulletin program that may be On or Off according to the rules and policies of this website. When a feature is not accessible to you, please refer to the Posting Policies and sticky posts on the Registration board.

Use of this website requires that you register an anonymous username. Usernames and passwords from other websites do not work on this website.

Read the FAQ first. Requests that are not within the rules will be denied. Administrator will review email requests and make the final decision.

When you email always email from your registered address and include your exact username. If suspended, include the listed ban reason. You must deal with why you lost access. Do not email moderators unless directed to do so by Administrator. Moderators will forward those emails back to the Administrator.

How to use Blogs:

All Posting Policies apply to Blog use.

Click on My Settings to set your Blog preferences.
At the lower left corner of the Message Board page click on the word 'Blogs'.
Click on 'Post a Blog' which will open the agreement to join the Blogger Usergroup.

The BLOG feature is only available to established members. Blogging becomes available after member status advances beyond Newbie status. (Read the sticky posts on the Registration Board to learn about member status).

CLICK HERE to read about THREADS and POSTS.

REGISTRATION:

(Again, please note that Blogs and Boards have different purpose.)

Registration must be confirmed by email. After Registration is submitted you will automatically be sent an Activation / Confirmation email which must be used immediately. If there is a code number, it is not for your use. Click on the link in the email one time in order to activate your membership. Then you may login your username and password.

If you do not get the Confirmation / Activation email, possibly either your spam control did not let it through to you, or you did not register a working email address. To get our emails, you must register a current, working email address and your internet provider spam control must allow emails from healthboards.com. You may need to call your internet provider to learn how to assure you can get emails from this website and request that healthboards.com be white-listed. After you have done so, please email Admin to request that the Confirmation email be resent.

Usernames that are not within the rules or are deemed to be inappropriate may be changed, deleted, or suspended without notice. Registration error messages mean that the registration was not done correctly. The error may be due to something as simple as entering the current date in the Birthdate line or any other mistake while registering. The instructions must be followed exactly.

Registrations may be edited or suspended when.... the username is disallowed, if your initial post is deemed inappropriate or off-topic, or for any other use that is against the terms of service.

With over 200,000 members, the more simple names may be taken, so try unusual spellings or add letters or numbers. Also, some words are censored; if you use a censored word for a username the registration will not go through. Try a different username.

Do not register your surname or put identifying info in your profile or signature: Your username, profile, signature and messages must not identify you to readers or contain any part of your email address, blog or website.

Do not register or post your past, current or future health topic profession in any manner. The boards are to be used for PATIENT opinions, only. Professional titles lend undue weight to what is to be only your opinion. Health profession titles are not allowed.

Do not register a public figure name, or a business, product, or website name.

Do not register or post words that appear to be obscene, evil, sexual, or offensive.

To request a one time username change: email your CURRENT username and registered email address with three possible usernames in order of preference to Administrator. A username change will affect all of your own previous posts, but will not alter your old username from other members' posts. The username may be changed to protect your privacy by following directions for a username change. Up to ten posts may be removed if the posts do not interact on other member's threads.

To login, make sure that the box is checked that says "Remember me". If you don't, when you access another healthboards page, such as when you click submit, you will be automatically logged off the website. If that box was unchecked, then whatever you tried to post is gone for good.

To request change of Location or other profile info: email your username, registered email address and the pertinent info with your request to Adminsitrator (address above)

The username may be changed to protect your privacy by following directions for a username change. Up to ten posts may be removed if the posts do not interact on other member's threads.

Private Messaging (PM): To enable PM click on "MY Settings". Under Settings & Options, click on Edit Options and set your choices.

Do not post to request PM from members. This is considered to be advertising.

PM the member yourself and if your PM is accepted by the member, then ask the member's permission before sending him or her any product or service information. Otherwise the member may report your message as spam, and your membership will be terminated.

MY SETTINGS: To make changes to thread subscriptions or change your password, email address, time zone, signature , Blog settings, or other options, login and click on "My Settings" at the top of the board list page. It is the member's responsibility to keep your registered email address current.

Subscriptions:

When you create a new post, by default you will receive a daily email digest of the replies that were made to that message (i.e., you are subscribed to the thread). If you would like to turn off this default subscription feature, login then click on My Settings, then click on "Edit Options" and change "Default Thread Subscription Mode" to "Do not subscribe".

You may subscribe to any discussion thread to get email notifications in regard to new replies. Simply go to any message, click on "Thread Tools" in the upper right of the message, and select "Subscribe to this Thread". When there is a new reply an email notice with a link to the subscribed thread will be emailed to you.

To locate your posts: New posts will move your posts down the list. One way to find your posts is to click Advanced Search and do a search on your own username. If you replied to a thread that was deleted for any reason, your posts will have been deleted as part of that thread. They cannot be retrieved.

If a sticky post on a board says the board is "Moderated", it means all posts on that board must be preapproved before they will show on the boards. In that case, you can expect posting delays, as moderators are not online all of the time. Necessary editing may be done before the post is approved. Read the board sticky posts to see if a board is Moderated.

To open the Board Topic List: On the Homepage, there is a tab called Message Boards. Use that tab to open to the message boards. Check the list to find and use the board that most closely relates to your health issue. Do not post a similar message on multiple boards. Read the rules.

To open a board, click on the topic name of the board.

To read a post or thread (a thread is an initial post that has one or more replies), click on the Subject of the post.

To post a New Thread on a board, click on "New Thread", located on the left upper part of the page just above the second horizontal bar or line.

To see your post you may need to reload or refresh the page.

To reply to a post, click on the Subject of the post and click Post Reply located at the top and the bottom left of each posted message. Other reply links are located at the bottom right on each posted message: use Quick Reply, or use Quote Reply if you need to see the message to which you are replying (after typing your message please edit off long quotes as they may slow the server).

Editing: You may edit your own posts if done within a few days by clicking on Edit, found at the bottom right of each posted message.

Deleting: Members may not delete posts. All posts become the property of this website. (DO NOT edit off full messages of your own posts. Instead make a request of the Administrator. Duplicate posts will be removed as seen. To request consideration for post deletion, email with your registered email address and include your username and the exact URL of the page to the Administrator (address above).

If you get an "invalid post" message, it means the post was deleted. Deleted posts can not be retrieved. Please do not email about invalid post messages.

To Report Bad Posts: Click on Report Bad Post found on the left lower corner of all posts to report posts that are against the rules. This will notify all Moderators and the Administrator, one of which will make a decision how to take care of the issue. (DO NOT use Report Post just to communicate with other members or moderators.

Lost or forgotten password: This website does not store passwords. All you can do on the website is reset the password. Your own computer 'remembers' your password with 'cookies', when you click "remember me" or "remember this password" and then login. To reset your password, enter your username to login and click to have an email sent. Write your username and password and keep them in a safe place. Do not depend on your computer or us, to save them for you. Moderators do not have access to your password.

If you do not get the reset password email, possibly either your spam control did not let it through to you, or you do not have a working email address registered. To get our emails, you have to make sure that your profile has a working email address and that your internet provider spam control allows emails from healthboards.com to get through. You may need to call your internet provider to request that healthboards.com be white-listed. Use the new reset password to login.

If you want to change your password to one that you prefer, click on "My Settings" at the top of the board list page.

COOKIES: If your correct username or password do not work, please clear the cookies on your computer. See the Registration Board sticky post that addresses cookie problems. http://www.healthboards.com/boards/showthread.php?t=221026

If you forgot your username do not re-register, email the registered email address and as many identifying details as you can remember, to the Administrator. Include all possible usernames. We cannot help without the info that you registered

Reminder: before you email us or post a question on the Registration Board, make sure to read everything in the FAQ.

Thank you and enjoy the boards!
