Question about Fibro - Fibromyalgia Message Board

Hi. I'm on the boards because my mom is supposedly suffering from Fibromyalgia. I don't know if the doctors are diagnosing her with this because they can't figure out whats wrong or what. Her main problem is she says that her chest cavity, just below the breasts, feels like its going to explode constantly. She has alot of spasms in her muscles, sometimes to the point that she panics. I feel so bad for her. Before this, she had never been sick a day in her life, was so active, loved to fish..etc. Now she has to be careful what she does. Does this sound like fibro? She has been on zillions of meds. and nothing has helped her yet. She just needs relief, mostly from her chest cavity. They did do an ultrasound to see if you she had a gall bladder problem but that came back neg. Any help would be appreciated. I feel so bad for all you people that suffer like this because I see what my mom goes through and it breaks my heart! Thank you so much.

No, this does not sound like fibromyalgia. Remember, "fibromyalgia" is now the dumping ground for what doctor's don't know what the problem is. A good way to brush off a patient.

Your mother needs to see an internist or at least a different doctor.

If I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia these days I would question whether it was or not. They did the same thing with "hypoglycemia" years ago. My gyn doctor told me there were only 5 percent of patients who actually had the problem and the rest just had a name to hide behind. This gyn was my doctor for 30 years and delivered all 5 of our children, I respected his comments.
