new to board

Hi all. I am 35 y/o mother of 3 - 4 including my sweet Hubby .
I have been posting on the arthritis boards, but feel that now I need to come here for advice.
OK, Here's my story:
Several months ago I thought I had hurt my left thumb (felt like a sprain) so I taped it up....That was in Feb. It still hurts today. I was and have been invloved at the gym (weights and cardio). But I started feeling pain in my right hand and a little above the wrist, like I couldn't hold the bar- no strength. so stuck to cardio.

In late march, my right elbow started to hurt in the joint but mostly aches just below the elbow on the forearm. Some times this are feels cold, tingles, and if i touch it it really hurts and takes a while to go away. It gets hot to the touch too at times.

I feel like every day, this pain in my body is traveling to different areas. Other than my thumbs, elbow and forearm that hurt all the time, it travels one day to my knee, one to my shoulder, today now I have a headache that wont go away (I took a 600mg motrin) Nope-still here.

Fatigue? Yeah, I feel like i do not sleep thru the nite, I must wake up about between 4-10 times a night. VERY rarely like last night I slept for 14 hours.

I feel like my Dr. is going to think I am nuts. I was at the dr 3 weeks ago and told her my symptoms, she never looked at me "Physically" - but told me maybe I needed to go to counseling. She did order blood work, RF, ESR,ANA,CBC and it was all normal. I even had a hand xray for my thumb. Nope normal too.

How do you fight your Dr? When you need their refferral to see a specialist. I do not want to chase my tail on this and have to keep explaining my self over and over...until someone hears me and listens.

I live in So. Cal. Any neighbors out there?
Thanks-soft gentle hugs (i am hurin' today)
Leslie

Re: new to board

I am sorry you are in so much pain. The best advice any of us can give you is change primary doctor's if you cannot communicate with your present one as you are just wasting your time, money and energy seeing physician who really has no interest in you. We have all been that route and frustration from lack of treatment will only enhance all your symptoms. I have been running around in circles for five years seeing physicians who really did not give a flip and finally got referred to rheumatologist who has experience treating fibro patients. Her primary goal is to get you to sleep decently which will decrease pain level and I feel like I finally hit the jackpot with her. She feels if you are not getting at least four hours a night of good sleep you need help to obtain this on trial of muscle relaxants with range of doses you can take to accomplish mission without experiencing a lot of side effects. Good luck in finding a conscientious physician. (TT)

Hi Hurtin'. Rheumy would be my first choice, also. My gp sent me to a rheumy after 100 other docs, and I was dxed within the first visit.

Hope this helps a little. Can a counselor refer you to a rheumy? It doesn't matter who the referring doc is, as long as you get the referral, right?

Hi..I would ask for copies of your ANA, sometimes it's low positive and they tell you it's normal This is what they told me...idiots.

Something is going on with your joints, you need to pursue this, fibro is in the muscles, not true joints, especially with feeling heat etc...

Also 25% of those with RA do not ever show up in blood work.

Are you having any other symptoms...mouth sores, low grade fever, rashes, anemia, etc?

Re: new to board

Hi all,
i am a little smarter than the average bear, I got copies of my labs when my blood was drawn, it just gives basic results. All normal.... When I had my xray, I asked for a copy of it too that day for a second opinion. Normal too. I am confused on what I could have and that is what is so frusterating......Because I would like to talk to someone who will care and might have a clue. I have a friend (of recent) who has FM and she is the one who has lead me to believe that it may be what I have since all of my symptoms are mirrored to what hers were. I just dont want a 100 dr's. I d rather keep the co-pay.....thanks for your support and info.

Other symptoms: I never get headaches..... until the last year, migraine type; I had 5 sores in my mouth 2 weeks ago. I run a sub-temp normally, sore throat that comes and goes like I am getting a cold, but then dissappears. Rashes sometimes when I am in the sun. Always cold if others are comfortable. Tired? all the time. I am the little engine that could mixed witht he energizer rabbit....I just keep going and then crash hard.

Still hangin' in so cal.
Leslie

Hi...rashes and mouth sores are symptoms of Lupus, IMO, you don't have fibro alone, you might have something else and then fibro going along with it...but the things you mentioned are not common with fibro, esp. the joint pain.
