Question taking a fibromyalgia poll...how many

suffer with both fibromyalgia AND endometriosis? I was diagnosed w/ FM in '97 and endo just this year and looking back I really believe that some of my old symptoms are better explained now. I am not trying to say that one causes the other....I just know that many with FM have other conditions as well. I have done a lot of research and have even found FM listed as a SYMPTOM of endo.....just a thought and curious what others may think!

Re: taking a fibromyalgia poll...how many

Hi Healthseeker,

I'm sorry you suffer with both things. I've known women with endo and it seems to be horribly painful. I don't have it but I do have lupus. It seems like most of us who have fibro also have something else.

So no endo here but I do know that physical trauma can cause fibro.

I hope that helps a little. - Andy

Re: taking a fibromyalgia poll...how many

Thank you for your reply...I really thought I would get more response. I have asked the same question in a fibromyalgia chat room and have seen many others with endo as well.

I am sorry about your lupus with the fibromyalgia.....that really seems to be more of a common combination these days! It is really great to have all these different views and opinions on here to help us through yucky times. Again, thank you for responding.

Re: taking a fibromyalgia poll...how many

I have been going through endometriosis since I was 23. At age 23, I under went 2 laproscopy surgeries and ended up being treated up with Lupron. That solved the problem. In 2003-2004, I under went another laproscopy with laser surgery for the endometriosis that was wide spread. Even after the surgery I still suffer from moderate pelvic pain especially around my cycle. I was dx'd with fibro about 1 1/2 months ago. Now, the extended amount of pelvic pain is making sense. I now have something to relate it to. I supposedly fixed the problem with surgery.

Hope your situation gets better. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one out there with this.

I am sooo sorry for your pain, but I am also glad to know that I am not alone. I am currently trying to conceive, if you don't mind my asking....do you have any plans for children or have you experienced an trouble with that?

Re: taking a fibromyalgia poll...how many

We have not tried to conceive. I am on too many medications. I would have to come off almost all of them to get pregnant. I am bi-polar so coming off my meds could be devestating. However, I had some close calls with missing birth control pills and still didn't get pregnant. Maybe just lucky.

Good luck in you and your husband conceiving!

Re: taking a fibromyalgia poll...how many

Thank you so much. It is definitely becoming kinda a journey.....and I'll take all the well wishes I can take! Sounds like you are doing a "balancing act" as well with your conditions, meds, life, etc.... Boy, we all seem to have our hands full, don't we?!?!?! I think people with FM should have a hall-pass from everything else (HA!), just a little dream of mine. Anyway, thank you for your kind words and I hope you feel better.

Re: taking a fibromyalgia poll...how many

I too had endo but that was before I was diagnosed with fibro. I suffered for 4 years with severe pelvic pain. They did laproscopy, put me on Lupron and I didn't improve. I saw 2 different doctors and they told me I had two choices, live with the pain or have a hysterectomy. I ended up having a hysterectomy after I ended up in the ER doubled over in pain. Even after my hysterectomy though the pain has never went away. When my current physician finally diagnosed my fibro, she told me that the pelvic pain I was having was probably due to the fibro. I was 27 when I had my hysterectomy. Now I continue to live with the pain and the fact that I can never have another child. I do at least have a daughter who is 6. I have come into contact with 6 other women in my area of WV who also had endo, a hysterectomy and then found out that they had fibro. So just a word of advice, if your doctors recommend a hysterectomy, think long and hard because if it's the fibro causing the pain it doesn't go away even after the hysterectomy.

I was diagnosed with Endo in my early 20's and just recently had a hysterectomy (March 04). I'm 40 yo now. I just couldn't take the pain any longer. My husband and I never conceived, even though we did 4 inseminations, etc.

I was diagnosed with Fibro a few years ago. I think the fibro has gotten worse, if possible, since the surgery, but I'm still healing. It is nice not having menstrual cramps or periods though. lol

Re: taking a fibromyalgia poll...how many

Hi There,

Just wanted to note that although I don't have endo, sry for all that do, my fibro got disabling after two surgeries. I believe that the anesthesia/epidurals made my fibro worse. So I believe that your fibro got worse after your surgery.

Yay for no more periods though!

Re: taking a fibromyalgia poll...how many

Yes Apriltones..........fibromyalgia and depression definitely go hand in hand. Many people w/ FM are treated with antidepressants because chronic pain can give you a chemical depression. I have found a lot of success in using an over the counter supplement called SAMe. It is available at places like Walgreens and Costco. Hang in there!!!!!!!!!

Re: taking a fibromyalgia poll...how many

I also had endo and ovarian cysts back when i was younger, and had a partial hysterectomy then several months later had a total due to more endo and cysts again. Ive also had fibro, i think ive had fibro before i had endo or at least before endo was discovered. So guess its more like what comes first the egg or the chicken?

Fibro also comes with so many different things but all due to fibro. I have been a sickly person ever since i was 4 yrs old. Have had tonsillectomy, appendectomy, hysterectomy, a cyst removed from my breast, still have several breast cysts but not bad enough to be removed, IBS, shingles, that was PAINFUL, allergies, TMJ, degenerative disk disease with osteoponia, spine problems that required lots of testing, ive suffered from adhesions due to the surgeries. Then this last Thanksgiving everything went downhill after that LOL. I was in the hospital 3 times for severe stomach pain. TONS of tests, 8 different docs saw me while i was there, different specialists. Then i had to have surgery for adhesions on may 14, three days later the site got infected. Rushed to doc, he sliced n diced, drained, and packed it. Had to pack it everyday for almost 3 weeks. Finally closed after so long. Was ok for two weeks except for fibro flareup from all the stress.

Now over the weekend i began to have swelling all over my body, rushed to doc, after tests, blood work they said something is wrong with my liver now. Theyre setting up a sonogram. Could be due to the pain pills that im taking that contain tylenal , or could be more serious, wont know till after the sonogram. So fibro comes with a whole list of illnesses. Endo being just one of the things that go with it. Its been very hard on my family. Both emotionally seeing me suffer and financially as well. The doctor bills even after our insurance has paid their share are draining our finances. I know i cant work, used to back when i was in my 20s and 30s, but i will turn 50 this sunday the 18th. I havent worked in years and never will again. Depression?? Heck yea, with a list like this id be ABNORMAL if i DIDNT have depression.

Re: taking a fibromyalgia poll...how many

Sorry that you have to deal with endo, I know it can be really painful. I don't think I have endo but I have severe cramps and cysts all of the time. I have always found one thing strange though, I have an 18 and 21 year old, had my kids young, and ever since then I've never become pregnant again, and have never used birth control either. Is it luck or something wrong? Who cares I have enough problems lol.

Good Luck
Chris
