Yep, I think I've officially lost my mind now. HELP!!

This has got to be the strangest, most annoying, and irritating sensation I've ever felt.. and I'm not liking it one darn bit.

I've had "skin pain" off and on for the last 3+ years (I quit counting, grr). Ok, I can deal with that. I'm used to that by now. Pain, yeh I have a heck of a lot of that too..

But now.. omg.. I swear to God, I have this itchy, tickling sensation like feeling inside my chest - in the front and in the back. It's also in my neck and head (though not as bad).. It just came out of no where one day.. I thought I was getting a cold or something because it just started as a tickling cough-like sensation, but then just started spreading.

It's like I can scratch and scratch, yet it won't get rid of the itch because it's INSIDE! I had the hubby rubbing my back last night as hard as I could stand it because it felt like the itch was in the muscles. And it went away for a couple hours. I feel it the most when I'm lying on my back. It actually wakes me up at night. I feel like ripping my skin off so that I can get to the scratch.

Have you ever had a tickle in your throat, in a place where you just can't get to to scratch it.. so you make yourself cough and clear your throat a million times, yet it's STILL THERE? That's what it feels like!!!

This has been going on off and on for the last week and I swear to God it's just about to make me go completely insane. I've taken benadryl, thinking ok maybe it's an allergy thing (I do have allergy issues), nope didn't help..

DH (hubby) wants me to call my doc since it's interfering with my sleep. Well, since I STILL haven't been diagnosed, how on earth can I go in there and tell her I'm itching on the inside?? Heck, I can't even find anything online about it. She's DEFINATELY going to think I'm insane and send me to a shrink.

WHAT IN THE HOLY H*** IS WRONG WITH ME????

Re: Yep, I think I've officially lost my mind now. HELP!!

I used to get that sensation in my legs at night and it would drive me crazy.
Now I use Klonopin and that seems to help it. Since you haven't been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, why not try a neurologist---that's where I got the most help for that symptom.

Sorry you're going through this.

Re: Yep, I think I've officially lost my mind now. HELP!!

SO I'M NOT CRAZY???

Oh thank you god. I seriously thought I was going insane here. I've been wanting to post this for the last few days, but I didn't want YOU GUYS to think I was nutso. But last night was the final straw. It was horrendous. This morning, it's no where near as bad.. it's mostly in the front of my chest in one area.

I don't like pain and I sure as hell don't like fatigue, but this I just CANNOT tolerate.

I've been to one neurologist before in the very beginning of all this.. he treated me like an idiot and told me to see a psychiatrist - that all of this was caused from depression. I wasn't depressed AT ALL at that point. I was still all happy go lucky, just wanted the pain to stop so that I could get back to my life. Maybe my new regular doc will send me to a different one since this has been going on for so long now.

But seriously, how on earth do I explain this to her without sounding like a psycho?

"Um doc, I itch inside.. I can't scratch it.. it feels like tiny little bugs crawling under my skin"

durrrrrrrrr

Re: Yep, I think I've officially lost my mind now. HELP!!

I know exactly what you are talking about here, and let me just say that you have my full sympathy.i have some severe nerve damage as a result of a surgery done on the inside of my spinal cord. These past few months have been an absolute hellish nightmare of pain syndromes and the most hidious and bizarre sensations that i had never ever dreamed were possible.you name the sensation and I have some obscure mutation of it somewhere inside a body part.It really sounds to me like what you are experiencing is being caused by a nerve somewhere and not nessesscarily from the fibro itself.I would talk with your neuro about trying something like neurontin or one of the other anti siezure meds that work very well on this type of ,pain???these types of meds actually calm down inflammed nerve endings.it might be worth it for you to at least check into this.i was taking neurontin for over two years for the nerve pain associated wih my C-spine mess but after my last surgery that caused all of the nerve damage, it was not effective anymore and I started to have side effects from it for the first time ever.this was at about 3200mgs.i am now on gabitril ,which is in the same class of drugs and it seems to be working at least a little bit.i would talk with your neuro about this as soon as possible so you can get started on the taper. These types of meds are tapered on and off.and they will increase your dosage slowly until you hit some relief.I really think that you should investigate this.i know what your dealing with is very nasty, and you deserve some peace.Good luck, marcia

Re: Yep, I think I've officially lost my mind now. HELP!!

Thank you both for setting my mind at ease here At least now I know I'm not insane..

One question though. I've been trying to "google" this sensation all morning. But I'm just not coming up with anything that really explains what I'm feeling.
Any suggestions?

This is what I've tried..

Internal itch/itching
Crawling sensation
Tickling sensations

The only thing I've found is pertaining to Restless Legs Syndrome.. that's it.
Hrmmmm.

Re: Yep, I think I've officially lost my mind now. HELP!!

Hi There, Believe it or not I have that too. My doc gives me hydroxizine for it. Knocks me out but I stop wanting to rip my flesh off. Sometimes I feel like I should be pushing a shopping cart in the park and wearing many coats in summer as I swat at bugs that aren't there because it feels like they are crawling on me.

I don't understand why so many docs don't seem to get that there has to be some neurology to fibro. Good to know about the other meds in case hydrox ever stops working for me.

- Andy

I did a search for you also and came up with nothing except something like peripheral nerve damage.

I'll bet anything that if you took Klonopin it wouldn't happen. Just a wild guess on my part.

I may be able to help you with this one. Check to see if there are any patches of whitish in your throat or mouth or gums. I had candida throughout my body including in my brain(it caused non specific meningitis) and lungs and throat and kidneys...etc...And I cannot use the meds for candida so I had to go with Colloidal Silver. It may not be what you have but it can't hurt to check and see. They have new stuff now like rinses, and meds that help this stuff if you get it in your mouth. If it is Candida DO NOT TAKE ANTIBIOTICS (unless it is specific for candida)....it will make it worse, in fact it can cause it too! Acodophillis helps too. It happens more than you know to anyone who has been ill, or has had frequent fevers, or even eats too much sugar!
Hope this can be of help. I know when I got it it started in the roof of my mouth and I has sneezing fits for hours at a time, so many that I had bloody noses that would not stop with it too. It was like a spasm of itching from beginning to end. Like waves of painful itch on the inside of my body. I hope that this was helpful and you find relief FAST!
My Prayers are with all of you...
"Above All Do No Harm".....Love and light to All of you...Kovena ....

I also had the sensation a couple of years ago. I went on a Candida diet and it went away. It wasvery annoying, so I feel with you. You probably have Candida around your chest area.
Start taking probiotics ASAP and do a Candida cleanse diet.
Kovena,
your Candida sounds scary. What were your symptoms?

Re: Yep, I think I've officially lost my mind now. HELP!!

hi dee74. you did not lose your mind. i know exactly what you are going thru. when i started out with fibro. 4 years ago it started in the back of my tounge on my epiglottis. it was the most horrible itchy tickly sensation. then it was sore and burning on top of that. it started to spread to my whole neck, down to my chest , into my legs, arms, eyelashes even, top of head everywhere i had this tickly itchy sensation. i thought i was going out of my mind because i went to every doctor possible. check for everything for inflammation of the nerve endings, went to throat specialist and everywhere you name it. nothing was found. finally i went to my enderconologist. thyroid specialist and she found that i had fibromyalgia. i also end up getting tyroiditis. it was horrible. to this day i still have that tickly itchy sensation deep into the nerve. you just can't get to it. it eased up compare to what it was but it still is driving me to want to jump out of my skin. you just can't scratch it because its inside of your skin. my whole spine now has that feeling right to the bottom. it even go thru my private parts. it is such a sickening dirty feeling. my sister has fibro also and she has the exact same tickly itcy sensation that i have. she feels like going out of her mind also. it make us really hyper because it drive us insane. isn't it horrible. well good luck to you. if you find anything that helps get back to me. i would try anything at this point. i did try stuff but it never took it completly away. and as far as prescription drugs, they never did a thing but made me sleepier. i try natural stuff like b-12 under tounge and 5hpt. also calcium and probiotics and a multi. vitamin which all helps lesson the syptoms. but they are still there lightly but enough to annoy you. just wanted to let you know you are totally sane. take care. jill

Did you find out just why the itching started and I too take the Hydroxy-zine and tried Prednisone, Fluocinonide and a number of other things including an injection. NOTHING is helping.

Re: Yep, I think I've officially lost my mind now. HELP!!

I get that too. Usually in my face. I feel like I have bugs crawling around under my skin and I get a burning sensation under the skin and it is usually followed by a migraine. I want to rip my face off sometimes to stop the itching.

Mine is usually caused by a smell (strong perfume, lotions, etc.) It can come on suddenly.

I have been on allergy injections for years and they had me on hydroxozine which I had to take prior to my injections. I always felt as if I was having bad reactions to it, one being it would make me black out. Finally, after 2 years I scheduled a patch test with the allergy doctor and found out I was allergic to hydroxozine. I had the allergy doctor change my anti-histamine and take me off the hydrozine and my sensitivity to smells has almost completely went away along with the skin crawling, etc.

So, my guess would be it is a reaction to something.
