How Long Have You Had It (Has It Gotten Worse)

I've had Lyme Disease and Fibromyalgia for about five years now.
It has cost me a fortune for doctors, hospitalizations, etc.

I used to be able to drive, then take the bus and train, and now I need a ride everywhere. I can't blame it all on the Fibromyalgia, but started out in a stealth manner. The Lyme Disease slowly brought me the symptoms of it and while the doctors were trying to decide if it was Fibro, Rheumatoid Arthritis or Lupus, the Fibromyalgia finally had a good grip on me.

It seemed to come on fast...about after a year of Lyme Disease it slowly began and I can trace it back. It's just that I had so much wrong with me that it took a while to figure out where the Lyme was hitting next. Had I gotten proper treatment of the Lyme Disease in the beginning I might not even have Fibromyalgia today. (There was a lawyer involved and some talk of medical malpractice, but the original doctor I went to DID treat me, but in an ineffective and non-agressive manner....so there went any lawsuit).

So--I was wondering. Did you wake up one morning and say 'Gee, something's wrong with me' or did the disease of Fibromyalgia sneak up on you little by little. Are you able to trace it's course?

Ed

Re: How Long Have You Had It (Has It Gotten Worse)

The fibro came up on me pretty quickly, over about 1 and half months to 2 months. But, I have had several of the other symptoms for several years traced backed to my early 20's. (I'm 30 now) I have carpal tunnel, endmetriosis, pelvic pain, migraines, constipation, depression with bipolar, not thinking clearly, mixing up words, loosing the words to say. The flu like pain was traced for at least a year. I just thought I was tired and I recovered quickly. Then the REAL pain and fatigue hit me around May 2004. I could hardly move. and the story goes on. I am feeling better now except for the depression. The physical part is ALOT better. I can even exercise to a point.

Sorry if there is any mispellings. The fog has set in for the last couple of days.

Re: How Long Have You Had It (Has It Gotten Worse)

Hi Ed, Molly,

I've been dxd for 14 years. I was just sore all the time and tired back then. It came and went for a long time and then four years ago it notched up enough where I had to start taking flexaril sometimes. But I could still do everything. Then two years ago I had too many things happen in a row and it made it worse and has stayed worse. I do have more good days than bad days now though thanks to meds.
