Plaquenil ? - Fibromyalgia Message Board

Can anyone share there experience with plaquenil? The rheumy wants me to start this along with methotrexate when i go back in Nov..I was also wondering if it has helped and what you are taking it for. Good or bad. He has asked me to do research on the meds and ankylosing spondylitis. Thanks Pam

Hi Pam,

I have not taken plaquenil but a friend of mine with lupus was on it. IT helped a lot but it also messed with her vision. It can cause permanent eye damage I believe. Don't know how common a side effect that is though. She was on it for years though.

It's an antimalarial drug. Hope that helps - Andy

I took it for 6 mos.Dr said it could build up a calcium deposit behind the eyes but after you get off it goes away.Must have happen to me cos when i got off i could see better and didn`t need my glasses as much. But i`m sure it could work the other way and effect the vision in another way. what ever he but me on it for it didn`t help.That was the only side effect that i had.Take care........jbot
