Fibro friends...please help - Fibromyalgia Message Board

Hello all,
I am new to this board. I am a 25 year old female with diagnosed fibromylagia/CMPS for about 3 years now. Since this August, I feel like this disease has robbed me of a real life. My anxiety has been out of control and I am terrified of every new symptom the fibro brings me. I need help with one particular symptom and I hope that I can find some answers among you. I have posted on 3 other boards here looking for insight, but have had no success. Since October, I have been seeing "colored spots/blotches" in my vision. They range in color and come and go quickly. Some days I have many, other days only a couple...but they occur daily. I have seen the eye doctor and a neuro and neither were concerned. The neuro thought I was experiencing some sort of "migraine." HOW CAN THIS BE! It's everyday! I am starting to give up! Please help. Thank you in advance.

Hi,
I think that it could be a symptom of FM. I have been having vision problems also. Mine have been blurry and double vision though, but FM is not the same for everyone. You could just have a different kind of the same symptom. It could mean that you will just have to accept and adjust to this. I have learned to do just that.

There are ocular migranes that cause light/color sensations. I have a friend who has them, sorry I can't remember the med she takes. They don't cause her pain, but are very fatiguing.

I encourage you to search on Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum - he has done a great deal of research on FMS. I found my present doc on his site and what a gem he is. I refuse to drag myself around feeling awful when there are answers. B vitamins, CoQ10, hormones - thyroid. All sorts of things that can help a great deal. There is a school of thought that FMS is under treated hypothyroid.

If a doc is not concerned about your well being, then I would go doctor shopping for someone who is concerned.

I see spots (flashing lights, blind spots) about once a week. I have for about 10 years. Only occassionally are they followed by a headache. The spots usually last for about 15 to 30 minutes, and while they are occurring, I have to try and close my eyes and go somewhere dark or I get nauseous. My dad (an eye doctor) has checked me numerous times but he says nothings wrong. For me, they seem to come on after alcohol or caffeine consumption, or if I am suddenly exposed to bright lights, or if I'm stressed (all the things that could cause a migraine, but it's a migraine without the headache for me). Do you drink alot of caffeine? You might try seeing if they occur each time after you eat/drink something.

Hi Ladies,
Thanks for your replies. I did have an ocular/optic migraine in August...it was completely different from what I am experiencing now. I lost my peripheral vision after seeing a white kaleidoscope. I see colored spots/blotches now. I cannot connect them to any stimulant. I've tried! I've tried connecting it to anything I could possibly think of but with no success. This is why I'm so frustrated! There is no headache associated with them.
