I'm new to the FMS HealthBoard, but have enjoyed reading your various posts, to-date.

I was diagnosed as a small child with juvenile RA, and have taken various medications through the years, most recently Celebrex. Late last year I visited a new rheumatologist after years of having my RA treated by just a general practioner. An enlightening appointment, and based on my responses to certain questions the doctor felt that it was likely that my juvenile RA was no longer an issue, but rather that I was a FMS sufferer. Subsequent bloodwork showed that the RA was no longer 'present' and that along with other general testing and more questions led the rheumatologist to diagnosis me with FMS...

I'm working on educating myself about this condition and have already put many of your kind suggestions into practice. The rheumatologist took me off the Celebrex about a month and a half ago, and my pain level has increased enormously since that time.

I am taking two Tylenol Arthritis twice daily, I'm going to physical therapy three times each week, (as prescribed by the doctor) I was already walking in the evenings, and eating well. I've also added gentle stretching exercises an hour or so before bedtime, as well. The doctor just prescribed 50 mg of Trazodone before bed each evening to help with insomnia which has been a lifelong problem. My sleeping has improved somewhat, for which I am grateful.

My pain, particularly in the area above my right shoulder blade, has become quite unmanageable. The pain in my left hip and knee has increased substantially, as well. I have an active life like so many other folks, and I tend to push past pain and try hard to let it stop me from doing the things I love to do.

Could any of you make some suggestions for managing the pain in ways I'm not referencing above? Your thoughts also on pain medications, if you please? I've not taken prescription pain meds very often...
