Hello everyone!
I am curious if anyone else suffers from the same visual symptoms as I have since last year. I had an occular migraine in August 04 and since then have had strange visual symptoms. I get quick flashes of color randomly throughout the day...most of the time blue. Other times they can appear as a clear or black "hole" in my periphery. They last seconds! I also get what I believe are floaters...they are clear strings in my vision that occur in bright lights and especially outside. My left eye twitches significantly when I'm tired or stressed along with various other facial twitches and/or bodily twitches!!!
Can anybody relate? I've had TONS of tests. All normal. The only thing I haven't done is an EEG as I've been told I'd have dilated pupils and other symptoms if it were an occipital lobe seizure.
Have you had the electro retinalgram sort of like an ekg of the eyes? I had one in june, they hook you up to all kinds of things. Just around your eyes and put the numbing drops in your eyes and run little electrodes in your bottom eyelids. You really can't feel anything. Then for about 45min they have you looking at squares of black and white with a red square and are always saying don't blink and they flash bright lights and then have you sit in the dark with a blindfold on. I can't remember what else, but it sure gives the opthomologist a good idea what may be wrong with your eyes. Luckily I was fine, it also tells them a score, normal is between 300 and 700 I was a low normal at 300. It is always good to know your eyes are fine.
I have similar sight issues and fibromyalgia. I also have "spots" all the time. It's sort of like when you take a picture with a flash and you can't see straight for a while, except it's always there. I saw a special doctor, who diagnosed me with Irlen's Syndrome. It's a problem with colors and light sensitivity. The treatments for it have worked.
HI, I am new to the boards, but I also have Fibro, and eye twitches. They drive me nuts. Twitch so bad that it's sometimes difficult to see. Also have floaters, and see things that aren't there.. Feel nuts most of the time. Good luck.
hi all
i too have eye problems floaters, spots but my main worry is blurred vision,i had an optical field test done at my local hospital and had the results back a few days ago and it said there where no significant problems am now waiting for an mir scan next week.
Welcome from me too. You have joined a wonderful family here. Ask away and someone will always try to help you.
Oxygen, just to say that my friend, who has SLE as I do, has purchased some Irlen spectacles. She says they are so very good at helping her problem with fluorescent lights and so on.
Take care.

Hi all!
Our computers have been down so I haven't been able to check! I have not had any extensive tests with my eyes. I've had them dilated and had the field test. I've seen a regular opthomologist, a neuro-opthomologist and a neurologist (an optomotrist too!). I'm scheduled to see a retinal specialist in a couple of weeks and an EEG scheduled for the end of October...with possibilty that it is seizure activity. Doubtful- but they want to rule it out. The spots I see are very brief...seconds usually. And almost always bright blue, with the exception of an occasional black hole. I see them with my eyes shut too! I have an appnt with a chiropractor too, to see if it might be spinal. Maybe tension on nerves? I don't know!!! It's so frustrating. My floaters are on/off. Some days really bad others not too bad. I don't get spots though- I get what look like clear strings.
Anyway- hope you are all feeling well. The fall season is starting to rear it's ugly head at me. I love fall but the weather changes knock me off my feet!
Take care-
Sounds like your moving on this problem. You call your floaters clear threads and I always see what I call black threads. One new problem I have noticed lately is I see a black dot, very small dot, out of my right eye only. My right eye is the one that sees distance and I wear a contact lens in that eye. Very weird, don't see it all the time but noticable when I do. Will check with regular eye doc, and of course will mention it at next opthomology visit.
You may want to check out Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker and his Neurotoxin theory for Fibro. He believes the Neurotoxins affect the eyesight as well, and a visual contrast sensitivity test will determine this. There was an excellent article by Patti Schmidt about Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker. I had an earlier post titled “FM Info” on Sept 23rd. that included this. He used Cholestyramine, a cholesterol lowering drug, to remove the toxins. Hope this helps.
