Sleep and sleeping meds question

I had a dr appt with my gp today, he is going to be working with my rhuem. dr to help me manage this fibro. He had me crying today, he is just the best dr. He told me not to read the negative things about fibro (people who say that it doesn't exist and that it is in the head), he said that I have 2 very intelligent dr's (which I do) that are telling me the truth, that fibro does exist and he is going to sit by my side and hold my hand and together with my rhuem. dr we are going to get control of this. I just started crying cause sometimes I feel so alone, that nobody else around me knows what I go through. I try and act like I am human when they are around and then I curl up in a bawl when they are gone. So him telling me this made all the difference in the world. He prescribed Lunesta for me to sleep. He said that I need to get some good sound sleep. But I do sleep all the time. Does this make any sense? He said that he wants me to take a sleep apnea (sp?) test cause he thinks that maybe I don't get the right kind of sleep. I trust his judgement so I am trying the sleep pills tonight for the first time along with my flexeril. Plus my Rhuem dr. has me on Plaquinel (sp?) because I have inflamation going on, I had so many tests run on me last week, they took 10 viles of blood and make me drink juice and sit there for a while. He also put me on Ultracet for the pain and that seems to be helping with the pain the most. Has anybody tried lunesta? Are there any known side affects?
Thanks for all the imput, I am still just trying to grasp all of this. Good days and bad days.

Re: Sleep and sleeping meds question

Well, I don't know much about the Lunesta, just a few things that others here have said about it. I do understand about the sleeping a lot with out actually getting "good" sleep. Before my flare I was sleeping it seemed like all the time but it wasn't restful sleep. After the flare started up I started knowing when I was waking up during the night, even if just long enough to wake up and turn over and go back to sleep.
I am so glad you have such a pair of caring drs. I wish more were. My 2 are pretty o.k., but not like yours sound.
I understand about trying to act human when others are around, however I'm starting to be that way only with a few. I figure I and my health am more important than what they think of me.
I'm also glad your pain is being helped.
April

Re: Sleep and sleeping meds question

hello avrod6, i almost started crying reading your post. your docs seem so supportive which is kind of hard to find these days with what we have going on.
it has taken me 2 pain management docs and 2 family physicians to finally find a place that i actually feel cared about. i see this nurse practitioner and she seems to understand what i am going through. i am almost 4months pregnant now and i weaned off all my meds (antidepression and pain meds) but man was i really hurting. i went in to see her yesterday about my pain and she went ahead and put me back on Norco. i was so relieved that she did this because the pain was so bad i did not know what to do. i always feel so good when i leave her office.
about lunesta i took that for about 6 months before i got pregnant and it worked really well especially when i took it with zanaflex. i would go into a deep sleep with dreams and everything. i really liked it and actually miss taking it because sleep is very hard to get these days with my fibro and this pregnancy.
goodluck and hang in there,
your friend,
robin

Re: Sleep and sleeping meds question

Thats great that your doctor is so understanding and is so willing to help you. I have only cried in a doctors office a couple times and the one that I rememebr was when my doctor basically told me that I would have to learn to live with the pain because there was nothing they could do. I left deflated and feeling hopelss. Thank God that your doctor did not do this to you.

Best wishes,
Amanda

Re: Sleep and sleeping meds question

Avrod, we have has a thread about sleep meds and lunesta was mentioned. I take ambien have for a couple of years. I was taking a muscle relaxer with it but was taken off that pending more liver enzyme testing. A good nights sleep, one where you sleep sound and don't wake up every few minutes or hours and go into a deep sleep is priceless. It makes all the difference in the world for me. Good luck.
