update and question

Ok, the percocet is helping. It makes the pain almost go away, much better than the hydrocodone had been doing for some time. I'm even sleeping better, not good yet, but alot better.
I am kinda worried though about what I'll do when this stops working. The hydrocodone quit working so I assume that at some point this will too. Also is the fact that I want some other way than just pills to help the pain. I have asked both my o.d. and my arthritis dr. about pain clinics, they tell me all they'll do is the same thing, pain meds. I know I've read books about some stuff pain clinics do, also I've called a few pain drs. and they sau they have some fibro patients but don't specically treat fibro.
So, if ya'll wanted to try something other than just pain meds, what would you do? Where would you start? What questions would you ask and to who?
I'd really appreciate any suggestions that any of you have.
I hope you all have had a light pain day.
April

Re: update and question

I had thought about accupuncture for the pain. My insurance covers it, so if it ever gets to that point I might try it. I had also thought about approaching it homeopathically. My fathers side is hispanic/indian and some of them do not believe in modern medicine. And believe it or not the homeopathic meds do much more. But they also have their down side effects as well. My father was on homeopathic pain meds for a shouilder injury and can't recall the whole week he was taking it. But accupuncture has been very successful in treating many painful deseases and syndromes. Look into it on the web, the info is there. Good luck

Re: update and question

hi april,
perhaps you might start with physical therapy. aqua therapy, exercise, massage, and fibromyalgia release therapy. next you might try meditation. a pain clinic will help you learn techniques for meditation. there are also some very good books at your local book store that teach the many different choices of meditation. i do walking meditation. it is easy (once i got the hang of it) and i get exercise at the same time.
your body is going to build a tolerance to any drug you take for pain. my doc says there really is no pill yet for the pain of fibro. i agree with her. pills take the edge off, for sure, but make it go completely away, nope. i do not like feeling dopey, so i meditate and do my therapies.
i disagree with your doctors. perhaps they do not have enough first hand knowledge of pain management clinics and are stating an opinion which is often much different from fact.
be persistant, little sister.
peace,
bluelakelady

Re: update and question

Hello april,

Like blue I would try physical therapy and exercise, I have had pt and I do exercise. Also I would look into alternatives like biofeedback therapy. My DIL is trying the homeopath way right now and she really likes it. She has also had acupunture for her knee and said it helped.

My personal favorite is the exercise and whatever kind of meditation you can do. I love walking, but I try to use imagery by relaxing and breathing deep and then picturing the pain leaving my body and trying to relax as deep as I can. Good Luck, let us know what you try and how it works.

Glojer
